Diablo Canyon nearly idle after jellyfish-like creatures cause clog
David Sneed
Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant is nearly idle today from the combination of one reactor shut down for refueling and the other operating at only 15 percent capacity due to an influx of small jellyfish-like animals clogging the facility's cooling water intake structure. more at link

It's not nice to ignore Mother Nature!
Plant was able to power down without any brown outs. It's time to decommission this disaster waiting to happen. The plant is wedged between two earthquake faults, one is most notably the San Andreas fault and right next to the ocean. Tsunami anyone? It is built only to withstand a 7.5 mag. quake.

Cololing is kind of essential to these things.
That said, iirc these jelly fish are having growths not seen before, thought to be from warmer ocean waters.

It's such a PITA, switch to single pump MSW lineup and hook up air hoses, everyone running around so we can answer a flank bell if we need to and don't have to lose A/C(since half the time ASW clogs too).

If these little beasties can get us to stop using nukes for energy, then we will avoid a disaster, hopefully.
