The pre-funding of postal service workers health benefits goes to the Treasury.

And they use the funds to help alleviate the deficit.

Wow.

No wonder the workers are pissed.

" The other cost comes from elimination of regular billion-dollar payments, now required by law, to Treasury to pre-fund health care benefits for retirees. That $23 billion would ease financial pain for the Postal Service, but it also means less revenue to ease federal deficits."

at specifically in reference to this thread.

if you want to convince me that overfunding SS for 40 years was somehow beneficial and innocuous, i will never agree to that proposition. it was a scam.

This makes me really really mad. Damn I hope the postal workers are able to collect. They need to lobby for a separate fund NOW.

A similar trick was used by Ronnie Reagan, who increased the payroll tax and used it to fund the government, so that he wouldn't have to raise taxes again. That's one of the reasons that the deficit is so high and the republicans are screaming about the 'inviability' of social security.

There should be a massive rebellion, IMHO.
