There is a point that I think needs to be added to the discussion about Zimmerman. Casey Anthony (or as Nancy grace calls her.."Tot mom." just won a case most of the nation thought was a slamdunk. The general line in the media was that the prosecution tried going for a higher charge without enough evidence. The prosecutor resigned, and the wreckage is still smouldering in the Orlando area, the same metropolitan area the Zimmerman case is in. Sorry to say, but the prosecutors already know they cannot control a media circus, even if they have to truck in jurors from across the state like they did with Casey Anthony. The media knows they will be able to get away with murder, especially since many of them are already planning to be in the area for the GOP convention later on this year.
The points to ponder are:
1) will the prosecution feel confident pursuing a high charge when they are still smarting from the beating Casey Anthony gave them?
2) will the media feel even more emboldened to turn the trial into a media circus?, considering they were successful recently, and that Florida has rewarded such tactics handsomely before : Anthony, Terry Schiavo, Election 2000, Elian Gonzalez, the list goes on.
I am not sure if I am on to something, but I am beginning to wonder.

Do you think that the media will affect the prosecutors in the Orlando area, if so, how? | |

(62,444 posts)I mean, sure, you've loosened things up with the "pass" option, but I'm not sure the notion of a "poll" has fully sunk in yet.
