The idea of loving one's neighbor is a religious idea, and yet the Republican Party voters and those they vote for, will say they vote Republican because of "religious issues" and yet they vote for Republicans who have only one issue - that is to take from the poor to give to the rich.
Explain that, or better yet read the bible people and you will see in no uncertain terms that Jesus doesn't want you to take from the poor. Don't hold yourselves out as Christians talking about abortion and gays and every other issue you pretend to foster, when you are the exact opposite because that t-shirt has your number.

20. Tough question. Best short answer I can think of...
Fri Apr 27, 2012, 09:16 PM
Apr 2012

...is that the Gospel Message ("Love One Another&quot is also reflected in the core beliefs of
any number of other religions. From Confucius' Golden Rule (which sounds an awful lot like
the "Do on to Others" message in Christian teaching) to the respect for Others and the Earth
taught by 'primitive'/indigenous people, it would appear that there's at least a little bit of
consensus on the meaning of spiritual values, no matter where or from what religious tradition
different people are from.

But what also seems to show up, in looking at Christianity and other belief systems as well,
is that the basic message is often received differently, in sharply contrasting ways. Some
people are able to accept that "it's not all about you," that the real meaning or purpose of
life is bigger than the recipient. Other folks are more afraid, more angry or full of themselves
or whatever, so they tend to confuse their own personal outcomes with the fundamental
meaning.

For whatever it's worth, that contrasting world view also seems to be echoed in political
life. Hard line Republicans (I'm talking about today's Republicans, not the leaders who once
helped define that party, like Eisenhower or Dirksen or Percy) now emphasize "You're on
your Own" when it comes to critical decision-making, and Democrats prefer to consider
"we're all in this together" when the answer to the question is really important.

As a professing Christian, myself (I'm Eastern Orthodox, and have to admit that I honestly
value weekly get-together's with some of my most valued personal friends, on a regular
basis) it bothers me that that's the way things go, established-religion-wise.

But what are you going to do?

Decide if fear, isolation and anxiety are going to rule your life, or maybe there's more to
it than that.

38. If you choose overcoming sin using the old law
Sat Apr 28, 2012, 06:43 AM
Apr 2012

I assume you are trying to point out contradictions. If you choose overcoming sin by using the old law, then do it all, including all the animal sacrifices. But that was presented that method first, before the new law (described in the volumes we call the Old and New Testament), in order to show us, by experience, just how impossible it is for stay "right" with God.

The new law overrides the old for those of us who CHOOSE to believe in God, and His book to us.

I am NOT trying to start a discussion or argument about religion, and won't use this forum to discuss it or my beliefs, other than to let you know that I know the RELIGIOUS RIGHT is being run by a bunch of non-believing hucksters and arrogant hypocrites who are in love of power and money (not necessarily in that order), and who prey on the intellectually weak. They will get what they deserve someday.

Sat Apr 28, 2012, 07:02 AM
Apr 2012

Nor are they really Christians. The church is full of people who are there for self-serving reasons. But by invoking God's name in order to attempt to elevate themselves by association, these people are using God's name in vain, and will be punished.

The Republican party teemed up with the imMoral Minority in the late 70's and infected Christianity with scums who use God as a stepping stone to power and wealth by tricking others who are also power-hungry, or who can't think for themselves.

I saw a study a couple years ago that concluded the American public, in general (including atheists), felt Christians were sincere and trustworthy. Something like 82%.

Now that the church, at all levels is contaminated by politicians, the number was around 40%, with liberals checking checking in below 20%.

That just about completely describes how bad the blowback is to the sincere Christians. Many of us have become disenfranchised with the "Church".

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. The materialism of affluent Christian countries appears to contradict the claims of Jesus Christ that says it's not possible to worship both Mammon and God at the same time."

It rings far too true. Not all Christians, mind you. There are a great number of Christians who do their best to live up to the positive teachings of Christ. It's far too untypical though.

"Jesus's teaching has nothing to do with miracles. If his mission had been simply to demonstrate a new method of restoring lost eyesight, the miracle of curing the blind would have been entirely relevant. But to say "You should love your enemies; and to convince you of this I will now proceed to cure this gentleman of cataract" would have been, to a man of Jesus's intelligence, the proposition of an idiot." - Androcles and the Lion, Preface; George Bernard Shaw

If it were easy, the message would be unnecessary.

Same goes for the First Amendment, actually. It's easy to protect the rights of those you agree with and to love those who are your friends. But what demonstrates our potential to actually rise above our primitive nature is to protect the rights of those whose ideas we abhor and to love those who are our enemies.

(I say all this as a card-carrying atheist. I don't believe the Jesus myth, but I'm a big, big fan of the guy's ideas.)

In "Jubilee 07:20" Noah teaches each one to love his neighbor. This
is before the Flood. (Therefor we neighbors are family) In
Jubilee 01:25 God teaches "And I shall love them." (This can imply
that love means "command&quot

Love your neighbor becomes command your neighbor. Since we are
one "enemy" becomes family. When it comes to Scripture there are
always loopholes.

Matthew 5:43-48

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I'm not a christian but love and kindness for my fellow man is very important to me.

Probably not any more accurate, but much more pleasing to the ear:

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

The way I see it, because this world is so full of cruelty, hatred and apathy, is exactly the reason we need to be more kind to each other. You know, don't add to the negativity. Be the change you want to see in the world.
