It's not even funny. It might be "appropriate" at a Friar's Club Roast of Linda Lovelace, but it still wouldn't be funny.

Republicans are trying to make like an 8 year old is as fully culpable as a grown person. All the while they have some ass hat fundraising for them that participated in the murder of a dog, which they then ate. You can't make this stuff up. In any case, it has to be dealt with.

I love my dog only slightly less than my children and I would trust Obama with her way more than Rmoney. Maybe Rmoney wouldn't eat her, but I bet he would let one of his dog eating buddies do it.

over indefinite detention, blocking torture photos, continuing Patriot Act? I imagine if a Democrat or liberal that wouldn't vote for Obama would be over those reasons or other things like MMJ raids than a silly joke that he obviously isn't serious about.

As to your above list, yeah, but this just happened to stop me like none of those did. Maybe because we picked up another rescue off the street yesterday, he's safe somewhere tonight. Though I would like to think I would feel like this on any other day...

I'm not comparing the two people, of course, because there is no comparison. But I periodically recall Michael Vick when someone mentions "pit bull" in the media, and here it came again. I hear I am not the only victim of this affliction by listening to other dog owners. There are perhaps hundreds of thousands of people in dog clubs all over the country, mostly white, and I suspect a fair number of them vote. I wonder what they think about...

Why screw around with something like that?

Or ask George Lakoff - from a technical viewpoint the more we hear "the president eats dog", which this will help people remember or learn about, the more it is going to be remembered in voters minds, voters who may well drive to the polls with a dog in the car, a Golden, or heaven forbid, their beloved "pit" in the minivan. Why do this? Heck, I like the guy - imagine what his enemies could or will do with it. Anything to light those neurons up.

There are movie actors who have turned down well-paying roles because the part required them to just kick a dog because they were afraid they would be pariahs after that. It's not a little thing to a whole lot of people.

It wasn't nothing, it was the President of the United States, not a stage comedian, talking to the person who would think that was funny. For what? Yes it was a "roast" - I get that - carried by a lot of media and reported on incessantly. Lots of people will hear about it.

Too much painful, tragic, unnecessary dog death going on especially of the general type of dog he mentioned, stupid thing to joke about. Not goddamn funny, and it would take someone out of touch with what is going on all over the country to not understand that. Unless a few million animals thrashing and screaming and dying at human hands in the shelters every year is a good subject to mine for political wit. Or maybe you need to add in the inuries and deaths to kids and adults. Oh, this is just gonna be full of material.

So, frankly, in a room full of people who think , or thought, that was funny, or thought they should "look like" they thought it was funny even if they didn't, then fuck every last one of them. I always thought I was the one with mad cow - maybe it's them.

I would just as soon shed people who are so insensitive that they can think it was funny that badly anyway. I've got the dogs and a couple hundred regular acquaintances who likely agree with that viewpoint, so there will be some interesting conversations coming up I'm pretty good at defending, even if I think we could do more, but this is going to make me think, and I already know I'm not the only one.

It was a crass remark. Not goddamn funny.

if we were to take what he said seriously, torturing and general animal abuse and more dogs than homes(shelters) is a different thing all together than consuming dogs. I can't get worked about joke when plenty of other animals are being consumed in reality. I realize dogs are friendly, social, & helpful to humans but is it really the cows, pigs, & chickens fault they don't have the brains & behavior characteristics dogs have?

What was funny to me was creative altering that lipstick Palin line while poking fun at himself a bit. Most things can be funny if done right, even murder of humans. Jelly in Analyze That mentioned someone committed suicide by stabbing himself in the back several times and threw himself off the bridge. Not for everyone or maybe that specific example isn't funny, there is Charlie Harper in 2 and a Half Men who claimed to see his father's floating head (don't know if he is dead or left the family) in the ocean telling him to "take of your mother". In the end he was watching a mafia where they are discussing killing someone by saying, "take care of him/her" with Charlie looking up and saying, "I got the message". It is not endorsement of murder or Obama's joke an endorsement of what you described, he has a dog himself. Actors will turn down roles for all sorts of reasons, but I don't think less of Anthony Hopkings for playing a serial killing sociopath. It also doesn't mean he takes serial killing lightly.

I've owned dogs my entire adult life and loved every one dearly. I have often said that I believe dogs are the most noble creatures on the planet. Two months ago, one of our three current dogs went blind from cataracts caused by diabetes, and there really wasn't any discussion that of course we would spend the $4000 for cataract surgery so she could see again, even though money is tight, because she's part of the family.

But my wife is a Filipino, so I have long since reconciled my love of dogs with the fact that they are consumed in some cultures. I understand that some people are highly offended by my sincere love of cow meat.

Yes, it was a very edgy joke, and it made me laugh because it was so unexpected, but also because it was pretty much like the Prez giving Repugs the finger.
