Its a lot of hard work, said Coker, who did not want to give his farms location in fear of risking another attack. They roasted them. If they get too hot they die. I hate for them to be destroyed like that.
Only an estimated 500 birds survived the attack, and they will be shipped out in coming days, Coker said.
One of Cokers employees discovered the dead chickens a week ago Tuesday. He said he noticed a large amount of steam coming from the sides and the roofs of the chicken houses when he arrived at work around 7 a.m. He immediately knew something was wrong.
When he walked into one of the chicken houses, he said it was like a sheet of white almost like snow that wasnt moving. The ventilation was shut off and the temperature inside of the house was turned up to 115 degrees.

I am not happy with the way many animals are raised en masse. However, to roast these chickens alive is beyond me.

(51,308 posts)I have my own chickens, and I would never buy eggs from a store. Never in my life.
Nor will I eat chicken. I live in NC in an area that has a lot of these factory farms.
Chickens have died in our area from the cold. And they die from the heat every year in those horrid buildings they keep them in.
If people only knew the conditions these lovely birds live in - they would NEVER eat them again or buy the eggs.

(23,487 posts)Billions of animals are tortured then killed every year. If you are eating meat, dairy and eggs you are part of this. Most of us vegans ate meat dairy and eggs for many years. Most of us agree being vegan these days isn't hard to do.
I am not a member of PETA BTW. Don't blame me for what they do.

BTW this is a thread about animal cruelty. Why shouldn't I give my thoughts on animal cruelty?
