Romney’s Openly-Gay Spokesperson Resigns After Facing Pressure From Anti-Gay Right Wing

http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/05/01/474811/grenell-resign/

Richard Grenell, the openly-gay conservative foreign policy spokesperson hired by Mitt Romney, has resigned from the campaign in response to right-wing pressure, the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin reports. “[M]y ability to speak clearly and forcefully on the issues has been greatly diminished by the hyper-partisan discussion of personal issues that sometimes comes from a presidential campaign,” Grenell said in a statement, which came just days after groups like the American Family Foundation painted Grenell as a “homosexual activist” and condemned Romney for bringing him on board. From his statement:

Did you learn anything, or will you be back tomorrow to once again lick the hand that holds your scourge?

As a straight man I fail to see what somebody's sexuality has anything to do
w/ anything. I mean who cares?

On the political side if the republicans want to piss off huge blocks of voters
i am good w/ that. Women, gays, Hispanics, students, unions, the poor, and on
and on the demographics do not look good for the repugs so no wonder "they"
have to Gerrymander districts, suppress the vote, rig the voting machines, and
control the media because outside of old white men, bible thumping wing nuts,
and people in Oklahoma nobody supports the republican party.

And after he'd deleted all his sexist tweets, too! Some people don't appreciate anything.

The Etch-a-Sketch is fighting back, Mitt Romney.

How spineless of Romney to toss this guy to the wolves and allow a bunch of religious bigots (who hate his religion as well) to make staffing choices for him.

But then I thought about Shirley Sharrod, Van Jones, and most recently Al Armendariz, and I realized that the other side has no monopoly on spinelessness when it comes to giving in to a mob of ignorant assholes.
