Regardless, it's never the common man who brings a nation to the brink of war, but they are the ones who get killed, while the "leaders" that led them to their deaths are congratulated and rewarded.

"The People" on both sides could work out any differences, but the leaders stand to make far too much profit to let that happen, so they manufacture lies and ridiculous claims about "the enemy" so the common man will think it's HIS problem, HIS land, crops, family, etc. being taken. But of course you know that.

There were drafts, but a lot of people signed up voluntarily. Of all of the World War II vets I've talked to, only handful were drafted.

Remember that there was a lot of patriotic fervor both in 1917 and in 1941-42.

Just like I only tolerate deficit spending when there's a Democratic president. I won't change these preferences because I believe in consistency.

Americans are not trustworthy on the issue of war. Would not want my life to be in the hands of voters.

Make it voluntary, with a lifelong tax credit as reward for service.
