Maybe the proposed Amendment One to the NC constitution isn't about what you thought it was about

This is the amendment on the May 8 primary ballot (!) reading: Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State

Since everybody's first reaction is that this is an amendment about gay marriage, some folk have been working tirelessly for months to point out that the proposed amendment doesn't affect marriage law at all: it actually affects the law regarding domestic legal unions, whatever they may be -- and, unfortunately, that term isn't defined

So maybe the amendment is about outlawing civil unions. Or maybe it's about making sure that when a girl's long-term live-in boyfriend beats the crap out of her, she can't seek help under domestic violence statutes, cause she's not married. Or something else like that maybe?

Um, no. According to the wife of co-sponsor amendment Peter Brunstetter says that's not it at all

Well, what then? Could it be a covert attack on fundamentalist Mormon polygamy, driven by the anti-Romney wing of the GOP?

Actually it's an attempt to increase Caucasian pregnancy rates "so the good 'ol US of A can stay white"

So let's stop calling the Republicans bigots! The R doesn't stand for homophobe! Not at all! It stands for "Protect the white race"

and increasing white births is what they're all about anyway. It's a damn shame how many African American churches have been pushing FOR this hateful Amendment.

If they can invalidate one marriage, they can invalidate another. Conservative legislation is NEVER just about what they say it is about. Many would dearly love to invalidate interracial marriages.

How does stuff like this even out of Committee, let alone to the point of being voted on? Doesn't anyone in power know when to laugh at and reticule the ridicules anymore?

It doesn't matter what race or skin color anyone is, there are too many of us for this planet to sustain us all. We are the Dandelions of the animal kingdom, crowding out everything else.
