Although I spent more than enough time and money collecting Avengers comics, as well.

The Avengers and The Fugitive were good TV.

I'm taking my daughters to see the movie tonight. They've been in love with Joss Whedon ever since Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Man from U.N.C.L.E, Get Smart, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Laugh-In,Twilight Zone, Andy Griffith, Gomer Pyle, Munster's. They just don't make good shows like these anymore. Today's writers are yesterday's just barely passing grads.

were zonked to the gills on the powerful psychedelics commonly available in the mid-1960s. Some of those shows were pure surrealism. There were some pretty weird episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies as well.

"I'm smoking crawdads, but first I need a little pot."

Buddy: You ever smoke crawdads, Robin Hood? Jethro: Why sure! Buddy: (to Stella) I knew he was on something.

Buddy: Are you Granny? Granny: Yeah. Buddy: You the one who smokes crawdads? Granny: Yeah. How'd ya know? Buddy: Well I heard. Ya got any on ya? Granny: No. Jethro took em all. Jed: That's the boy we's lookin' fer. He dressed like Robin Hood totin' a bow and arrow. He's got a pretty girl, a hound dog, and a ape with him. Buddy: Sounds groovy. How'd he get on that kick? Jane: He means how did it all start? Jed: Well, we was in our castle in England and Jethro went out in his knight suit chasin' dragons through this rose garden. Buddy: Tell me something old timer, do you smoke crawdads? Jed: I have. Buddy: How bout you? Jane: No, not I. Buddy: I'm glad you're driving. Would you drop me off at the Sunset Strip? I've got to tell my friends about this. Jane: Certainly, hop in. Buddy: Thank you. Jed: You're gonna get them to help you look fer Robin Hood, huh? Buddy: Sure Daddy, sure. Tell me Granny, how long since ya smoked a crawdad? Granny: Smoked some this mornin', when we flew in from England. Buddy: Did you use a plane? Granny: Of course. Buddy: I'd like to hear your version of this Robin Hood story. Granny: Well, it really started back at the castle, when that big dragon dog ate Cousin Marcus. Buddy: Get me to the strip baby! I've got to spread the word about Robin Hood and the crawdads!

My favorite episode.

Jethro as Robin Hood, with Elly May as Maid Marian and the ape - Cousin Bessie - as Little John.

Another rather 'interesting' story arc was the one where Elly May was dating a Navy frogman, and when Granny saw him in his scuba suit, thought he was an actual frog-man human-animal hybrid [(c) Incurious George] .

I don't think shows have been better. There are a number of great shows and the strength is the writing. Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels. CBS has a number of good shows, I think Person of Interest is a well-written show.

I think movies are in a decline but the writers on the top TV shows are brilliant.

Yeah nothing good on TV these days.

Well except maybe for Game Of Thrones

Oh and the Walking Dead.

And maybe

Shameless
Nurse Jackie
Boardwalk Empire
Modern Family
Bones
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Fringe

There is plenty of good writing on TV these days.

Although, the weirdest coincidence (maybe the Avengers one wasn't exactly a coincidence) is Dennis The Menace, debuting two different comics with the same exact name and premise on the same exact day in both the UK and US.

but yeah, I've always preferred the comic Avengers to the TV (and the horrible Sean Connery movie)

What is it about British TV and their casting women in strong roles? Dr. Who has a history of this, too. However, one notes that the head character is always male. I would like to see Dr. Who's next regen to be a woman and she would find a guy companion. But I am getting off topic here.

Cathy Gale, The Avengers original female companion was played by Honor Blackman, who notably starred in the third James Bond movie, Goldfinger as the incredibly misogynisticly named Pussy Galore.

I loved Emma Peel, not only because she was smart, sexy, and resourceful, but she drove a Lotus Élan, an incredibly sexy automobile. Tara King also drove a Lotus, a Europa. Sexy women in fast cars. I think Thames Productions knew what their audience was.

Again, I want to see a female Dr. Who and a female Ms. Steed.

Anyway, i'm not sure that funding a benevolent foundation that just so happens to run a few at-risk youth programs counts as "fighting crime." Oh, and I once took in a circus kid, but you wouldn't believe the crap I had to put up with for that simple act of charity.

was amazing. Even the car magazines of the day said the thing was an absolute pig to drive smoothly because of all the rubber bushings in the suspension system. That she was whip-smart and looked so fiiiiiine in a catsuit only added to her "M Appeal" (the term the producers used in searching a replacement for Honor Blackman - more Appeal to Men).

Seriously high strung engine. The car was light as a feather, and yes, extremely tempermental. But it could turn on a dime at high speed. Lotus knew suspensions like no other mark.

Yes, too bad about those rubber doughnuts.

Introduced by Douglas Adams, the author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe and Dr. Who writer. Dawkins and Adams were very close friends. When Douglas Adams died I was devastated. The world lost a incredible intellect.

My favorite Adams quote:

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Douglas Adams (1952-2001)

Gawd, this thread has gone blissfully off the rails. I love it.

That it's better than the Avengers movie with Uma Thurman. The trailer was the only thing entertaining about that flop, and it only lasted 2 minutes. The movie itself? Painfully awful.

EDIT: Oh. It's a Marvel Comics movie. At least it will be better than the other one I mentioned. I don't know - I'm more of an X-Men fan in the Marvel Comics universe. I also like the Batman universe (DC). I don't know about this Captain America, Thor and Incredible Hulk business. They just aren't as impressive as the other groups I mentioned.
