THIS is a choice.

Religion is a choice. The basic tenant of many religions is you reach an age of maturity and join the church. You or your parents decide to baptize you, or bar mitzvah you, or you choose to let religion become a guiding force in your life. You choose your religion, and can switch at any time. Bored with being a Baptist? Go try being Catholic for a while. See, you can do that because religion is 100% at your discretion.

That is a choice. Being born black, or Chinese or gay is not a choice.

I invite you to look at every law being passed against gay people and swap out the word gay with Christian. That is the smell test for me.

I think religion is important. I think church is a valued part of society. I would defend a religious person's rights to their beliefs. But those rights are not more important than a gay person's.

They are equal rights. Period.

I don't think we need to show deference to people because they practice a religion. That is the source if the problem.
We put religion on way too high of a pedestal. I am glad these religious people in IN are getting their shit thrown back in their faces.
