Republicans Write Letter To U.N. Encouraging Countries To Ignore Obama. Sound Familiar?

It’s no secret that the Republican Party loathes President Obama with a seething anger. He demolished their candidates in two separate elections. He has managed to accomplish a great deal during his terms despite their avowed goal of obstruction. But perhaps worst of all, he has become increasingly popular over the years as his agenda gets realized. Republicans look like the spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum – and they know it.

In a new odious tactic that circumvents having to actually beat Obama politically (which they can’t do) or win over the public (which they also can’t do), Republicans have taken to the radical approach of undermining the president by going behind his back and insisting to other world leaders that the president is not important, not to be trusted, and safely ignored. According to an exclusive report by Reuters, Republican congressional leaders have sent a letter to the United Nations, asking that member countries back away from any climate deal that Obama might offer.

The Obama administration’s plan for U.N. climate change talks encountered swift opposition after its release Tuesday, with Republican leaders warning other countries to “proceed with caution” in negotiations with Washington because any deal could be later undone.

Sound familiar? That is because the same Republicans just told Iran roughly the same thing. Don’t bother with the president because we will kill any deal you make. For Americans, a Republican Party bent on stopping any progress Obama could make may seem like old news, but for the international community, the message must be surreal. “What is going on in the United States?” they must wonder.

I agree they have been exponentially radicalized since the 90s, and increasingly operating outside the boundaries of proper government, and doing shit like lying us into Iraq and sending the letter to Iran that SHOULD have been prosecuted in some way.

But, the facts don't support the statement than they no longer represent american principles because they continue to win elections, and outside of the white house in fact have MORE power DC, the state capitals and the judicial branch than they did in the 90s.

They can say and do wtf they want now, and suffer no consequences on election day - gaming congressional districts, caging votes, trampling on voting rights ...

While this stuff burns OUR asses, the reality is that America no longer cares about these things.

They do not represent American principles. The problem is that they do not get held accountable for the wrong-doing they commit. If they were held responsible for the hijinks, they wouldn't make it through the political process.

The rest of the damage occurs because our two party system is based on identity politics for most people. Republicans can dog whistle for their supper, releasing short bursts of soundbites that resonates with their base. Hard to beat when no one is around to show them that there are legal limits to political machinations.

term "American." Because, let's face it, Constitutionally speaking, this country has strayed from its original blueprint.

That's a common pattern in Republican areas. They really do not adhere to the law. It's like a tribe that has learned to come in and pilfer a community by taking over the leadership roles and undermining the foundation to the ground. All the while, they expect you to view them as pillars of the community.

One thing this American does not plan to do, is yield to the crazies.

(AND THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE!!!!) have tried everything to thwart President Obama. They've tried every which-a-way. They've blocked him, obstructed him, slandered him, libeled him, stabbed him in the back, trashed him, threatened to sue him, called him every name in the book, questioned his citizenship, his faith in God, his patriotism, EVERYTHING. They tried to keep him out of the Oval Office. Then four years later they tried to push him out of the Oval Office. FAIL. And FAIL AGAIN!

DAYUM. Bill Clinton's ordeal with these schmucks was kindergarten class compared to this! Criminy!!!! And he's somehow prevailed. And That. Makes. Them. APOPLECTIC! They're used to winning, rigging the game, running things, owning it all, and their sense of entitlement - that THEY ALONE are anointed to rule - is undoubtedly so offended that they can't even think straight at this point.

And he's toying with them. They fully expected to wipe their feet all over him after last November - and it just ain't workin' out that way!!! He has defied them at EVERY turn and he's still come up aces, again and again. He continues to outwit and elude them and shame them and leave them behind, whining. They don't know what to do but rant and rage. And THAT isn't gonna get 'em anywhere, either. It just makes them look bad, worse, and WORST. Shitty, shittier, and shittiest.

It seriously makes me tempted to wonder if God really is on this President's side.

As I closed this, I realized that I actually almost feel glad the GOP did this. Just put the cherry on top of that super-sized shit sundae you've built for yourselves, GOP!

Seriously. I think the rest of the world looked at that TRAITOR tom letter with the 46 other signatures on it, a spectacularly public attempt to snub, insult, and demean the President of the United States on a GLOBAL stage. Now how does that make us look strong and formidable and unimpeachable as the moral leader of the world, most-respected, first-among-international-equals, on said global stage? Tell me how. Help me understand. The rest of the world has no insular, self-involved "world view" like we have. The rest of the world seems to recognize its collective peer-ship more than we do. Does it seem like that to you? I just get this sense, reading and listening to people from other nations (including more than a few DUers), and this common thread many of them express - about how they feel they know more about neighboring countries and the US than we in the US know about most other countries in the world, period. Even their news programming, I'm repeatedly told, is more diverse.

We were kicking around the whole notion about the bubble the so-called "right" wing has crawled into, to inhabit. We last had a so-called president who had almost never even been out of the country before he ran in 2000. You tend to get big time sets of blinders on you when you've seldom or never seen or immersed however briefly in other cultures. When all you hear and appreciate is what your own little club espouses, while the only media you pay attention to is a miasma of Pox Noise and hate radio, and you're repeatedly encouraged to sneer and scorn at your opposition or blame them for everything or declare them heathen. And certainly not take anything they say into account.

So when what they say turns out to be true, look out! You're at a loss and out to lunch. It's not working out the way you planned and schemed, so you don't know what to do! Except throw a fit! And President Obama's Sore Loserman enemies have almost two more full years of this unfortunate ordeal to slog through.

How exactly?

This is so far out of the attention span of the electorate that it literally will have no impact.

The republican nominee will scream about Obama "GIVING THE FARM AWAY TO IRAN!" and "Democrats are weak!" the media will let these statement stand as matters of fact, and the electorate of this country will dutifully believe that only republicans can keep us safe.

The republican nominee will say there is GREAT disagreement on climate change, the media will let that stand as a matter of fact, the electorate will side with the republican because their hair is not at that very moment catching fire from the intense heat from the sun and the republican implies that the new cell phone might cost a dollar more because of the measures necessary to actively address our part in global warming.

"remind" the public.

But, it won't matter one bit.

John Kerry served honorably, was wounded in Vietnam.

Bush II got out of active duty based on his family connections, and ignored the warnings that led to 9-11.

But, Kerry was a spineless, weak, america hating POS and Bush was as RESOLUTE and TOUGH MAN OF ACTION who KEPT US SAFE!

The reality of who they were was irrelevant.

John Kerry para-sailed, Bush II had photo ops hacking at some weeds in his "ranch" texas.

That was all that mattered.

Seriously. What exactly do they think they will gain? We're as far behind the times as almost any nation in the world when it comes to global warming and renewable energy. Wars have started because of global warming.

Do they not realize what it will do to any future negotiations? Or how they are undermining themselves if, dog forbid, they ever get the white house?

This is so bad. We have so far to go to get back the respect and, for lack of a better word, envy we lost in the world. We have Amnesty International condemning us, and rightly so, for human rights violations, we have an educational system that used to be the envy of the world and now we rank 19th overall, behind Russia by 2 points and even worse in science. The only country that puts more carbon in the atmosphere than we do is China. Our police killed more people in one month than the UK did over 60 years. We are intolerant, we start wars and coups in nations we have no business being in. We spy on allies and their leaders. But we still have come a long way from the hate we received and deserved from the mid 2000s.

But now, we look like complete fools that have our own coup coming

Foreign Relationships must be based on a stable reliance on the word of established governments. Receiving/communicating to foreign governments is tasked to the Executive Branch, per the US Constitution. Since, the republicans (and the republicans alone) seem intent on violating this Constitutional protocol, creating international uncertainty and instability ...

I recommend that all the foreign nations, that have an interest in being able to trust the word of the POTUS, take advantage of the Citizens United decision and dump as much money, as they can afford, into the campaign coffers of these republicans' Democratic challengers ... with a particular focus on the House of Representatives.

The Second Bill of Rights, Franklin D Roosevelt

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the Nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment;

Boehner, McConnell & the other GOP saboteurs have to go!

I wonder if the Republican leaders in Congress can be charged with treason?

I did several searches, altering key words and two different search engines, and could not find a reference to this story on any other news or blog. Not sure I trust the source.
The closest thing I could find was an article in The Hill (http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/237478-mcconnell-warns-countries-against-un-climate-plan) that talked about McTurtle and Inhofe making some comments about PBO's speech to the UN on climate change.
That is a far cry from a letter akin to the Iran letter from 47 Senators.
We mustn't get trapped in trolling and false flags. There is more than enough real things to talk about than to let ourselves get worked up by fake crap.

Here's the Reuters article:

The Obama administration's plan for U.N. climate change talks encountered swift opposition after its release Tuesday, with Republican leaders warning other countries to "proceed with caution" in negotiations with Washington because any deal could be later undone.
...
"Considering that two-thirds of the U.S. federal government hasn't even signed off on the Clean Power Plan and 13 states have already pledged to fight it, our international partners should proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.
...
But Jeff Holmstead, a lawyer representing utilities industries for Bracewell & Giuliani and former assistant administrator of the EPA under George W Bush, says even if the courts uphold the EPA proposal on power plants, a future Republican administration can reverse it.

"There are some EPA rules that are very difficult for a new administration to change but this is not one of those rules," Holmstead said. He calculates that at least five high court justices are wary of the EPA's regulatory leeway.

The McConnell quote is also in the Washington Post, which also has:

That’s not to say that Republicans have to accept the Obama administration’s policy without criticism or objection. Here, for example, is Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday’s announcement:

“The Obama administration’s national energy policy is practically a national windmill policy – which is like going to war in sailboats when nuclear warships are available. If the administration is serious about achieving energy independence and protecting our environment, it should work with Congress to unleash the clean, cheap, reliable sources of energy we need to power our 21st-century economy. That means doubling government-sponsored energy research, building more nuclear reactors, ending Washington’s obsession with wasteful subsidies like the wind production tax credit and solving our country’s nuclear waste stalemate.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2015/03/31/the-bad-gop-and-the-good-gop-on-climate-change/

CNN has the McConnell quote too.

At the time, Sen. Mitch McConnell called the plan to curb emissions "unrealistic" and said it would harm the U.S. economy.

McConnell again criticized the "job-killing and likely illegal" Clean Power Plan on Tuesday, saying that even if it were fully implemented, "the United States could not meet the targets laid out in this proposed new plan."

"Our international partners should proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal," McConnell said in a statement.

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/03/31/politics/white-house-greenhouse-gas-curbing/index.html

But, yeah, maybe all these major news outlets (and more - I was getting bored pasting the results you couldn't find in several searches) are all lying to us, eh? I mean, McConnell would never go on the record with something like that, would he? Oh, wait:

McConnell Statement on Obama Administration International Climate Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued the following statement regarding the Obama administration’s unworkable Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) in preparation for global climate talks in Paris:

“Even if the job-killing and likely illegal Clean Power Plan were fully implemented, the United States could not meet the targets laid out in this proposed new plan. Considering that two-thirds of the U.S. federal government hasn’t even signed off on the Clean Power Plan and 13 states have already pledged to fight it, our international partners should proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal.”

The AddictingInfo article is bullshit.

The AddictingInfo article is titled: "Republicans Write Letter To UN Encouraging Countries to Ignore Obama. Sound Familiar?"
In goes on to state:
"According to an exclusive report by Reuters, Republican congressional leaders have sent a letter to the United Nations, asking that member countries back away from any climate deal that Obama might offer."

It specifically alludes to a letter like those idiots sent to Iran. That did not occur. There is not a letter, signed by "X" number of senators, sent specifically to the UN.

In fact, if you actually read the UK Reuters article it plainly states:
"...And McConnell's warnings echoed the tone of a March 9 "open letter" from 47 Republican senators to Iran..."

That is the only actual reference to a letter being signed by senators. There is no mention of an actual letter being sent to the UN. That was my point.

No letter, signed by a bunch of senators, was sent to the UN.

Again, the things that McTurtle is saying and doing are bad enough. We don't need to over-dramatize or make shit up that didn't actually happen. When you get people spun up on something and then they find out that it wasn't true, it makes it very hard to get their help and action when we have so many real issues that need real attention.

The addictinginfo article said a letter, signed by a group of senators, was sent to the UN protesting PBO's climate change efforts. That did not happen. I have been trying to explain it without sounding rude or condescending. We have enough real problems without creating new problems out of thin air.

"We mustn't get trapped in trolling and false flags. There is more than enough real things to talk about than to let ourselves get worked up by fake crap. "

Yeah, that's condescending.

If you want to be picky, the addictinginfo article did not say a letter, signed by a group of senators, was sent to the UN. It said "Republican congressional leaders have sent a letter to the United Nations". McConnell is a Republican congressional leader. As you yourself have pointed out, Inhofe said something too; he, horribly, is chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which makes him a congressional leader on this subject, and he also put out a press release:

The Obama administration’s pledge to the United Nations today will not see the light of day with the 114th Congress. ... When a treaty comes before the Senate, I fully expect for a majority of my colleagues to stand with the rest of Americans who want affordable energy and more economic opportunity, neither of which will be obtainable with the president’s current climate deal.

http://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Majority.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=653885b3-b4f7-fd13-2969-bc7a2bb48d97

So we have 2 press releases, from 2 Republican congressional leaders. You are saying that because these were press releases (which would, of course, be read by anyone at the United Nations with any connection to this subject) rather than letters specifically sent to those people at the UN, that it is 'fake crap', 'trolling', 'false flags' and 'creating new problems out of thin air'.

In #62 you said "There is no mention of an actual letter being sent to the UN. That was my point. " When I point out that it was a press release (actually press releases), which makes no difference in reality, you turn around and say "not the point".
