Cake is speech. No pizza for gay weddings.
It's as if the RW somehow thinks these vile hate laws apply to bakers, florists, and pizza makers.
Quite apart from the flip side of these laws - which also allow non-Christians to discriminate against Christians - these hate laws apply to everything. As in, where does it end? Bookstores? Car rentals agencies? Car dealerships? Hotel chains? Coffee shops? Stationery stores? Grocery stores? The list is literally endless. Sure, it may never get this far. And the beauty of the free market and social media is that shaming will undoubtedly stem the tide. And the RW will soon tire of GoFundMe campaigns to help out those affected by the backlash. But in the meantime this focus on flowers and cake is ludicrous, and embarrassing to us as a nation. I mean, really, cake for a gay couple is the gateway to bestiality? Not even The Onion could come up with this stuff.
I used to work for the USG overseas (not military) at a time when, despite my political differences with the political party that was in power, I could seriously claim, with a straight face, that we were a great nation. Okay, at least great-ish. Today? Not so much. Well, today, not at all.

PS: I don't actually think there is such a thing as "gay sex". Sex is just sex, regardless of who is doing what to whom.

What these cake makers are objecting to is receiving money from LGBT folks. They consider LGBT folks money "dirty." That is the depth of their hatred.

(115,606 posts)(Pizza not so much, despite the recent flap about a pizza parlor, since who would have a pizzeria cater their wedding?) The gay-hate has really hit an all-time high lately because so many states are now allowing same-sex marriage. Most businesses have no way of knowing for sure that a customer is gay (unless they come into the store holding hands with their same-sex significant other), so it's not easy to 86 somebody out of a pet shop or a bookstore or even a restaurant on suspicion of gayness. But if someone comes into a bakery and orders a cake with two brides or grooms on it, or lettering saying "Congratulations Joe and Fred," or goes to a florist and asks for flowers to be sent to a wedding that is somehow identified as same sex, now the proprietor knows for sure that there's gayness happening, and that it is an especially dreadful sort of gayness that will send everybody to hell that has anything to do with it because God says only a man and a woman can get married because the whole point is more babies for God. Or something.
