#1 - I find that bigots are programmed by their parents and/or respected friends and contacts.
#2 - I believe that all human beings should have inalienable rights. Those rights include not being ostracized for having different sexual norms.
#3 - I believe we need to go back to a liberal education model.
#4 - I believe bigots and racists should be ineligible for federal office.
#5 - If I ever come face-2-face with Ted Nugent, he'd better be well armed. All i need is my fists. Can anyone say "douchebagel"?

(30,058 posts)When I close my doors at the end of the day I am not concerned about my neighbors bed room activity or the lack of activity. If two people are happy together and there isn't any violence I am happy for them.
Some of the religious right people told my niece to return to a marriage where there was violence against her and her children, that it is wrong to divorce. She did not follow their instruction.
I am sure many learn from their parents to be bigoted but as an adult we must make our own way, form our own opinion. Yes, I have evolved. It was actually easy.

Ted Nugent is not worth the risk of going to jail.

(13,041 posts)but Ted Nugent and his ilk (Fox News, religious fanatics, lunatic fringe Republicans, etc.) continue to make it a constant battle.
I just wish they would all pool their money and buy a country.
This country would thrive without their hate, divisiveness, greed, and intentional ignorance.

How did Wisconsin go from being one of the more liberal states to Scott Walker Land? I say this because I remember the good old days when something Wisconsin did gave Rush Slimeball a fit, much to my delight! Solid Union state, solid Liberal Universities. I say this because Walker and Christie mains goals to fame is that they can make a Blue State go red. The reverse is a lot harder, mostly thanks to the Alison Grimes and Charlie Crists of the world who think being slightly right of Obama is much more left than Ol Dixie can handle, and the fact our Churches have enough cash and manpower to hamstring government.

(8,209 posts)It has been painfully difficult to watch. But the rural areas have always been red.
the main factors, I think and not necessarily in this order.
Redistricting and gerrymandering of legislative districts
Rush Limbaugh
Fox news
Citizens united
The Koch brothers
ALEC
Americans for prosperity, etc, etc , etc......
Mostly what is going on nationally but with an intense focus.
Their theory is/was as Wisconsin goes, so goes the world.
We were a test case. More states to follow..........

(14,195 posts)Hate radio has made them feel free to speak out. I say if a company wants to have "religious freedumb" to discriminate, then they need to post notice prominently on website, ads and front door. Until they do, I will have to avoid any company that posts the fish logo under the assumption that they support said "religious freedumb"

(110,900 posts)in the Jim Crow south. I knew it was wrong, I hated it, but I'm wise enough to know that no one in that situation can escape all bigotry. They served it to us on our lunch trays, mixed into the topping on the cardboard pizza. It was everywhere.
You bet it's programmed. Some of us have spent a lifetime fighting it, inside and out.
As for Nugent, I'd just walk away giggling and twiddling a forefinger next to a temple. The man needs to be laughed at. Desperately.

(13,877 posts)"douchebag" or other iteration? I'm assuming people know what the real item is, what it's used for, and referring to it as a perjorative, well, it's time we left it behind us. I have a douche bag and it is not a person.
It's just not this post, so not picking on anybody. It's way too common and there's got to be another synonym to describe "disgusting" and "offensive".
I'd like to include this under #3 ... "liberal education"
Thanks.

I used to watch "Frasier," not just for its delightful wit, but for the imaginative vocabulary the characters used-- mostly Fasier and Niles. The writers were obviously a creative bunch.
