More than two thirds of people taking antidepressants 'may NOT actually have depression'

Doctors discover many do not meet the official criteria

Study analysed those taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
Found 69% did not meet the criteria for clinical depression
And 38% did not meet the criteria for other mental conditions like anxiety
Experts: 'Drugs are prescribed without an evidence-based diagnosis'

Antidepressants are also prescribed for other psychiatric disorders.

But the researchers found 38 per cent of those taking the drugs did not meet the criteria for obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia or generalised anxiety disorder either.

needlessly suffering from drug side effects which in the case of some anti-depressants can be quite severe.

of medications that may cause them to be deferred. Antidepressants aren't an issue but I get asked about those a lot. It really gives me an idication of how many people out there must be on that crap. Hardly a day goes by where say one out of 20 potential donors doesn't ask me about that. Probably more of them are on the shit but either don't ask or already know it's not a problem. Then only something like 5% of the population donates. In public, you are around people on antideppressants more often than not. It's gotta be bullshit! They created the demand there somehow. People never needed that before.

source of profits for the pharmaceutical industry. And of course that is why so many drugs, not just anti-depressants, are over prescribed.

I take a very low dose of a generic anti-depressant, for post-shingle pain. Works just fine. Considered an "off label" use, but I have since found that it has several off label uses.
Plus is cheap as hell...something like 10.00 for 90 days supply.

I have had a stressful life and they have tried to put me on them. I took some for a few weeks once I know not long enough but I felt no better and thought this is big pharma trying to pull one on all of us and I have never taken any since.

I am not sure what the answer is but I have seen my husband who has depressive episodes and what works best for him is pot. It totally calms him down and makes him happy and when it wears off the episode is gone.

If you're taking anti-depressants, you'll never ever revolt no matter how crushing and injust the circumstances you find yourself in

Win-win for the corporatocracy!
