Carly Fiorina: Environmentalists To Blame For 'Man-Made' Drought In California

Carly Fiorina: Environmentalists To Blame For 'Man-Made' Drought In California
4/6/15

WASHINGTON -- Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina on Monday blamed environmentalists for what she called a "man-made" drought in California, which has led to the state's first water restrictions.

“With different policies over the last 20 years, all of this could be avoided,” Fiorina, a likely 2016 Republican presidential contender, said in an interview with radio host Glenn Beck. “Despite the fact that California has suffered from droughts for millennia, liberal environmentalists have prevented the building of a single new reservoir or a single new water conveyance system over decades during a period in which California’s population has doubled.”

Fiorina, California's 2010 GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, said it was a "classic case of liberals being willing to sacrifice other people’s lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology. It is a tragedy.”

The drought, now officially in its fourth year, prompted Gov. Jerry Brown (D) last week to order a 25 percent reduction in water consumption. The order does not apply to the agriculture industry, which consumes nearly 80 percent of the state's water.

...There's nothing magical in and of themselves to build a (reservoir) facility," Lester Snow, the executive director of the California Water Foundation, told the Bee last year. "If we had two more surface storage facilities that we built 10 years ago -- pick any of the two that people are talking about -- they would both be very low right now. There's a tendency to pull down our surface storage when we get mildly short of water."

..."For a science denier to opine that Democrats caused the drought in California is about as irrational as believing someone who failed at running a business in California and then failed as a candidate for office in California has any cause to be running for the highest office in the land," Bobby Whithorne, the group's spokesman, said in a statement.

What a climate change denying, teabagging loser. Let's blame the environmentalists for it not raining! If CA had 2 more reservoirs all problems with the lack of rain would not exist! Its all the fault of Liberals!

Please.

I came -this- close to calling her just that. Because it fits, she is an idiot. She's also illogical. And as a woman, I find it insulting we should pamper & protect women from being called out the same as a man if they are being illogical idiots.

Much of California's water is in the snowpack in the Sierras and other mountains and
building a dam doesn't have anything to do with that.

If this drought continues for decades, and there are indications that it might, there WILL be wet years intermixed with the dry years. The problem is California's water storage system was designed for normal rainfall and it's totally maxed out; even with zero growth, California now needs more storage capacity when 80% rainfall becomes the new normal.

One proposed shovel ready project the Feds, state, farmers, and even the conservationists are warming to is Sites reservoir, west of Maxwell.

The proposed, though yet to be built, Sites Reservoir would be a large off-stream reservoir in the Sacramento Valley in Northern California, a project of the California Department of Water Resources. Its primary purpose is to collect winter flood flows from the Sacramento River, diverting the water upstream of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta and pumping it into an artificial lake located west of Colusa. The estimated water yield would be between 470,000 to 640,000 acre feet (0.58 to 0.79 km3) per year, depending on yearly rainfall and environmental regulations.

The reservoir would be operated as part of the California State Water Project (SWP) and is projected to cost between $2.3—3.2 billion. According to a 2013 Bureau of Reclamation study, it would provide economic benefits of between $248.8–276.2 million per year, while annual operating costs would be in the range of $10–20 million.

I find it interesting that Carly Fiorina's conservative friends in Sacramento have been the ones dragging their feet on this from the get-go.

Carly, you are a loser, you really are.
I normally don't demean someone, but in your case you have no fr****ing clue on what you are talking about---none and then you sit and talk to a paranoid right wing libertarian hypocrite racist that goes around and says "be afraid be very afraid", yep be very afraid of him and yourself and join the rest of us on this dying planet and get a real clue.
Let me give you a clue, in San Paulo, Brazil, for the next Olympics the mountains around the city have NO glaciers---so they are running out of water and they are rioting.
In Chile the same thing.
And by the way the last time I and my family were in Hawaii (Big Island) you could see smog, yep, smog it came from China it was disgusting to see smog being generated by coal fired plants from China, and the temperature had dropped 10 degrees because of the SMOG and just like yourself and others called Authoritarian Capitalist who created the smog---it was a human being more interested in money.
Glacial National Park up here on this continent is gone---it should be called You Humans Are Really Stupid National Park.
Do you fully realize that if you watch the tree line in the high desert country and the mountains they are moving higher because there is no moisture, and what moisture there is in the higher elevations if it rains.
And if you really had a clue about California, you would know the State flower in California is the poppy flower its normally stays in bloom until around June or July, well guess what, if you knew what California was about, you would know that the flower is gone there is no water in the high desert country---but you don't want that fact to get in the way of your denial---except to blame a liberal.
I just have to ask do you think or have a clue on what you and the rest of the life on this planet need to say alive and its not sea water---come on tell us.

If you by chance ever decide to sit down and read a really good magazine like Harpers for instance.
Read what's is going on in Greenland (please note, when I flew over it in the 60's you couldn't see a land mass, it was covers with ice and snow, now you can see the land mass up above the Arctic Circle) there are no glaciers.

Then if your right wing curiosity on further denial really drives you bonkers did you and Beck buy chance see what the Antarctica glacial shield is doing down there, its about the size of Texas, OK, Kansas, its about 280 miles wide and its slowing being moved into the sea, because of the melting water, yes the melting water, just like what's is happening underneath the glaciers in Greenland they are poring into the ocean at the rate of 456 trillion gallons a year of melted water, that is not good.

I think you, Beck, Inhofe and others of your ilk are the problem and its because you are a conservative (now that sounds oxymoron----- conservative)
