Back in 2005/2006, I think anyone then in the Kerry group was accused of being a paid supporter. Yet no one questioned the ardent Edwards or Kuchinich supporters. At the time, one thing we decided was to take it as a compliment. After all, you could say that the people saying it were saying that we were good enough advocates that the team of a sitting Senator, not running for anything at that point, to pay us to do it.

In fact, we were rewarded - we (on our own dime) got to meet each other and enjoyed seeing many speeches the Senator gave and saw him and Teresa at his book tour. We also have a sense of accomplishment that we defended this good man at a point when many Democrats preferred to throw him under the bus.
