I'm not sure farm workers are just screaming for certification, but I can sure see how a lot of people other than them could profit from this.

(11,646 posts)Certification doesn't just mean certified organic. It also means that the farms are certified as having decent housing and fair wages and benefits for the workers.

(6,446 posts)but sometimes it's totally unwarranted. These groups are trying to do good work here. If you want to scoff or roll your eyes, thank you for doing it offline. I think Costco would gladly pay a little more for everything if they could be sure the money was going to the workers. As for this conference... if one person there walked away with a better grasp on safety guidelines or handling Bt or farm-worker housing designs or distribution efficiency, then i'd say the conference was a success.

(15,882 posts)approval of their process. And I will post comments online. Don't like 'em? Gosh, that's too bad.
This reminds me of the same bs that Gompers and his backstabbing AF of L brought to their conspiracy with business and the government to destroy the IWW and their workers. Made the plantation so much better for the owners by throwing some scraps to the workers, and handed us exactly the situation we have with labor today.
So I will wait and see, like I said.

(4,558 posts)Costco > Sams.. in soooo many ways. I love Costco. I love their business practices. I love the way they treat their employees. And they STILL give great quality wholesale products.
Now, if they would just get into the retail ring, and give Walmart a real competitor.

(21,675 posts)I was just there today, in the middle of a torrential rainstorm, i might add (woohoo, cali!) getting a new pair of glasses + sunnies. They have an awesome vision center, the attendant was the best!
Some of the things I like from Costco: SFB French Roast coffee beans, Smokehouse almonds, string cheese, cat food, cat litter, tp and paper towels, the 6-pak of Thomas's english muffins (great deal!), their house rum and vodka, and last, but not least, the rotisserie chicken - can't leave without one!
Costco!
