Microsoft, eBay, Twitter and Netflix among 100 tech companies calling for LGBT protections

More than 100 tech leaders in the US have signed a statement calling for nationwide LGBT non-discrimination protections, reports Human Rights Campaign.

The statement, printed below, comes in response to the wave of ‘religious freedom’ laws being considered in several states, and the recent passing of such laws in Indiana and Arkansas.

The business leaders state that any laws that put the rights of minorities at risk and threaten ‘the transparent and open economy of the future.’

It goes on to say that, ‘Religious freedom, inclusion, and diversity can co-exist and everyone including LGBT people and people of faith should be protected under their states’ civil rights laws.’

‘We call on all legislatures to add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes to their civil rights laws and to explicitly forbid discrimination or denial of services to anyone.’

3. Many of these companies have been ahead of the public at large per gay rights

Microsoft offered benefits for the partners of gay couples back in the 90s. Verizon, AT&T and Starbucks also have been very progressive on this issue.
