What in the living fuck is going on in our country?

I am so upset and sad for our nation. The very ones who are supposed to protect us stops us and beats the livin' shit out of us. Yes I mean us. We are in this together. Cops are beating both black and white citizens. One because they are racists and the other just because they are vicious animals with guns. They are not pigs. They are wild hogs. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/04/10/video-of-teens-brutal-assault-goes-viral-after-cops-try-to-delete-it-and-fail-video/

The turn signal and brake lights were fully functional. If a cop pulled me over for a tail light, and I KNEW it worked, I would be scared shit ess too!

and be a lot more careful about picking who gets the job.

Though we should also consider how violent our society can be - they get that mentality based on what happens in the streets - they assume the worst where they may not have to.

The kids did absolutely NOTHING to cause fear in those cops. There was no reason presented in that video for the cops to "fear the worst." Excusing their behavior is disgusting.

Minorities have been complaining - and very rightly so - that they were being targeted by aggressive police tactics/policies for decades. It's just that it's being recorded more often and the media seems to be interested in keeping the legs under the story.

Plus our never ending war on drugs, and our increasingly militaristic police force, it's pretty much a perfect storm, or a molotov cocktail depending on how you look at it

I avoid Facebook, because friends with whom I grew up, who used to be, nice, reasonable, and somewhat intelligent, now all act like raving maniacs. It's sad. And scary.

Stephen King once wrote a short story about some doctors who accidentally release an experimental virus that turns people into blithering idiots. The doctors are frantically trying to find a cure before they, themselves, are too stupid to do anything about it. Their notes start to read like the last two chapters of Flowers for Algernon, and pretty soon the whole world is barely competent enough to tie their own shoes.

I think Mr. King was on to something. It's the only way I can explain what seems to be going on around me every day. And it's getting worse and worse.

But why the hell do people argue with and actively resist the cops. That is not a battle you're going to win. A cop asking you to get out of the car is not unreasonable. It doesn't matter if you're 17 or if you're 65.

They have a badge which gives them the power to enforce laws in our country. If you don't comply with those laws, you can expect to be arrested. This kid was not behaving in a compliant manner. Does he think that because he's 17, he doesn't have to comply with the rules and laws of society?

I've seen people on Huff Post and everything calling bullshit on the "smelling dope" claim and what not, but "smelling dope" is probable cause and the cops were within their rights to search the car and it's occupants. nobody would have heard about this incident if the kids had complied with the officer. Most likely they'd have been on their way in 20 minutes if there were no drugs. Even if they had a small amount of drugs, they'd probably have been given a summons, or possibly the girl gets a DWI.

Instead, they probably spent a night or two in jail, and theyll have a permanent criminal record.

The cops will probably get reprimanded or transferred for the attempted phone video erasure (maybe fired, but I doubt it).

my rights and asserted them they could do nothing but tell me to move on. I have beat them in court more than once. Cops do not represent the State. That's what Italy's fascists and Germany's Nazis were. Representatives of the "State". A cop represents his town, city or county. They are not federal representatives. Laws are different from State to State but the US Constitution is the bell weather for them all. I disagree with the majority of what you say. Unless a cop is allowed to stick his nose 'directly' into an automobile he cannot say where a particular 'smell' is coming from. There is going to be a paradigm shift in policing and neither you or I cannot do a thing about it. Until cops get their heads out of their proverbial asses we are going to see more unnecessary killing. The current system sucks and the 'People' are going to definitely change it. No matter how many think the cops are somehow supreme beings of the "law".

There are cops on the inside who think major changes are needed. I know first hand and you will never change my mind. Trying to convince me otherwise is futile.
