Video Captures Irate Father Punching Toddler In Store

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --
Police in Bakersfield arrested a man who they say hit a toddler in the face. And the whole incident was caught on surveillance video.

It's video that is hard to watch. A toddler is seen running away from a man inside the Vest Market in Downtown Bakersfield. Then seconds later, he's struck in the face -- knocked to the ground. The man then picks up the child, and a woman is seen walking the little boy outside.

"I would never imagine treating a child like that," said Chris Danaher, who works at a tattoo shop near the market. "His wife or girlfriend or whatever was clearly pregnant. She had no regard to it. She picked up her son and left the store."

Justin Whittington, 23, was arrested Friday morning.

"It's terrible. That kid is obviously too young to know what was going on. Honestly, couldn't be more than 3 years old, and I just couldn't imagine anyone doing that to me or me doing that to a child whatsoever," said Danaher.

Whittington is being held at the Kern County Jail on $1 million bail.

Officials say the toddler was checked out by paramedics and is doing just fine.

The nature of Whittington's relationship to the boy is not yet known

According to a previous Inquisitr report, footage from before the punch has also surfaced on the internet. This video showed more of the incident between the toddler and the man. Both of the videos are shown in the video above.

“In the 23-second clip, the man identified as Jason Whittington can be seen bending over to say something to the toddler, who appears to be sitting on the ground behind a shelf, out of view of the camera. The man then grabs the toddler by the arm, yanking him into the air where he dangles limp, his arm nearly dislocating from the shoulder.”

the creep assaulted the little boy, and he's probably done the same to other kids....and to adults too.

The mother merely took the child from the store? That's it?

It is a classic set up....Mom sees nothing wrong with what happened, acts as if everything is normal, the male adult can't control his behavior even when out in public.
How is he going to act when a crying baby is in the picture.?
How often does this scenario make the news following the tragic death of a child.

That's not an excuse, but many people were raised in environments where hitting was acceptable and expected and they just pass that behavior on.

9. It's never OK to hit a child

Even some DUers think there's nothing wrong with spanking, but it's really no diffence than this other than perhaps the degree. Hitting children accomplishes nothing. In fact it's counterproductive, not to mention it leads to acceptance of things like this.
