A day before Hillary Clintons much-touted launch of her run for the White House in 2016, Barack Obama said on Saturday that his former secretary of state and 2008 primary opponent would be an excellent president.
As the Guardian reported in an exclusive on Thursday night, Clinton is set to announce her candidacy for the Democratic nomination on Sunday.
The president was speaking in Panama City, after an historic meeting with Cuban president Raúl Castro on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas and before a diplomatically delicate meeting with the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro.
The president said Clinton who was first lady for eight years, then senator for New York and secretary of state in his first term in office was a formidable candidate in 2008, she was a great supporter of mine in the general election, she was an outstanding secretary of state, she is my friend.
I think she would be an excellent president.

Bernie will make even better President than Clinton and it's something we need in this toxic climate.

(10,044 posts)He is an angel from outer space, no other explanation for it.
But a polar opposite is not what I want, and surely there must be other honest, forthright, knowledgeable people, who are articulate and whose main objective in life has not been to be president, and not lead the country from Wall Street instead of Washington.

Can't understand how actual Democrats can trash her and stand silent on the republicans.

(10,044 posts)I bet he wasn't lying - he didn't qualify a president of what, and he loves everyone. That's how he gets into so much trouble with leaders of countries on our "terror" list.
I think he's an Angel of some sort. I wish I could be as kind as he.
He also said it was the job of journalists to question and determine a candidate's worth, but I forget what words he used. I think it was a reply to Acosta's (CNN) question.
Great press conference, as usual.

(133 posts)The general public has been wising up. However not yet to the extent that they realize "We the people"...had been thrown a bone by the "Rulers" The true owners of this country offering us up a Black president ...Now we are being groomed to be pacified by a "Woman President"... Especially Hillary just makes me a little dizzy, realizing "we have no choice" we now have "Selections" Elections are a nice fable but not reality.IMHO.
