Gary Johnson - Libertarian nominee - what do you know about him?

Last edited Sun May 6, 2012, 01:36 AM - Edit history (2)

Edited to say....
GARY JOHNSON IS A CORRUPT CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR DUDE THAT WAS ELECTED GOVERNOR OF MY STATE TWICE.

HE is ubiquitous and fooled MANY PPL.

He is Charismatic and Vacuous (any bells ringing?)

DO NOT dismiss this choice.

It is calculated and smart.

After the Cinco De Mayo celebrations in NM there will be other NM DUers that will express the same concerns.

PLS!!!! no more edits, my carpal is not liking the keyboard pounding.

He is not a milquetoast Ron Paul.

MANY Dems voted for him in NM.

I'll be honest, he scares me. Low Info voters will only look at his 'celebrity creds'.

I think he was put forth to be a 'Nader 2000' spoiler.

Gary Johnson Urges Supporters To Caucus For Ron Paul

Newly minted Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is now urging his supporters in Iowa to caucus for Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) on Tuesday.

Johnson’s full statement:

“Wednesday, December 28, I announced that I am seeking the Libertarian nomination for president. Accordingly, I urge my supporters in Iowa to vote for Dr. Ron Paul in the upcoming Iowa Presidential Caucuses.

“While Ron Paul and I are both libertarians, we don’t necessarily agree on every single issue. However, on the over-riding issues of restoring our economy by cutting out-of-control spending and the need to get back to Constitutional principles in our government, Ron Paul and I are in lock-step. Indeed, I proudly endorsed Ron Paul for President in 2008.

“The cause of individual liberty and freedom is bigger and more important than any candidate or campaign. I am hopeful that in urging my supporters in Iowa to vote for Ron Paul in the upcoming Caucuses, a victory for the principles we share can be won.”

that's Johnson.

Federal ban on abortions/ Roe v. Wade

Johnson believes that Roe v. Wade is extraconstitutional and has wrongfully given the government the mandate to intrude on the private lives of Americans.

“Judges should be appointed who will interpret the Constitution according to its original meaning. Any court decision that does not follow this original meaning of the Constitution should be revisited. That is particularly true of decisions such as Roe vs. Wade, which have expanded the reach of the Federal government into areas of society never envisioned in the Constitution. With the overturning of Roe vs Wade, laws regarding abortion would be decided by the individual states.”

heres my take on Big Johnson.. His entry into politics was preceded by his owning Big J enterprises.. among other things, his construction company ran a crew of scab electricians at the Intel Rio Rancho plant construction.. the result of this was shabby wiring that later had to be replaced by Union labor, who actually knew what they were doing.. the man is no Friend of labor..

Lark is right he's slick.. his term as governor is one of constant contention with the legislature.. often offering little input, until vetoing the legislation.. perhaps the only thing that saved New Mexico during his term was simply he served at a time when there was so much growth that you couldn't screw it up..

don't be fooled by the pot smoking... hes a genuine libertarian.. neo-liberal

the guy is running for president. It seems a bit head-in-the-sand to not discuss the opposition.

I think his drug policy stance could be trouble for Obama in Colorado and New Hampshire, both of which are battle ground states. There will be a pot legalization initiative on the ballot in Colorado, and there's been a lot of pot politics in New Hampshire, too. Plus, the administration has been putting the squeeze on dispensaries in Colorado.

He may be more palatable to disaffected legalizers than Ron Paul, and that could peel away a few votes in those states where it could be close.

Your scolding makes you appear to be the "owner" of DU, or the snitch who runs to the teacher to whine every time you see or hear something you don't like. Your behavior is juvenile and unhelpful.
Your attempt to ban all discussion of Johnson is reactionary, alot like the ostrich that puts his head in the sand.

Johnson will be on the ballot in 40 or more states, but he won't win more that 2-3 percentage points in any of them. In NM, where he is best known and liked, he'll barely crack 4%. It's conceivable that he could play a role in outcome of the election in a closely contested state, but that is unlikely.

At one time I thought that he could take enough votes from Obama in NM to swing the state to Romney, but that won't happen because Obama is leading Romney by 15 percentage points here. And, most pundits agree that he would likely get more Repuke votes than Democratic ones.

Gary Johnson=negligible impact

wrongly. If you don't like Skinner's rule on not advocating non-dems, take it up with him. A long time DUer was recently banned for advocating this guy and I didn't want it to happen to someone else again. As did other people on MIRT.

I'd rather warn someone that their post looks off, give them the chance to edit it, than simply alert and have it hidden and them possibly banned.
