(11,417 posts)today. Mostly how various groups with their agendas would see it. What would the men's rights and feminist think if it was a new hit today. It really doesn't fit either I think.

In the BIG Choir now, he is.

(18,402 posts)For me it was Paris, ca. 1970: Percy Sledge on the jukebox at every corner cafe; playing "flipper" to "When a Man Loves a Woman."

(60,010 posts)I worked in Huntsville for a bit, back in early '90's.
So drove over to Muscle Shoals, saw the studio, which looked like a dry cleaner's building or something, not at all ostentatious.

(36,416 posts)As a teen, she walked into Hall's studio and landed a job as a session singer; Rick Hall heard something he liked. She did backup vocals on Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Women". She worked at Fame studio and later at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.
I enjoyed the film and was blown away when the opening interview was with her explaining a bit of the background, and the meteoric rise of the Muscle Shoals Sound.

Bob Slydell: I'll be honest with you, I love his music. I do. I'm a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman".
