(20,043 posts)I remember thinking how brave he was. My son was 6 months old at the time--he'll be 24 in June--almost 24 years ago...it was a brave thing to do.
Glad to see he's as healthy as he is. Also think it's great how supportive he is with his son--he's a great ally.

(26,582 posts)But there's an episode of ESPN's 30 for 30 that covers it, and it's fantastic. It covers him finding out, retiring, the Olympics, etc.
I'm not a big sports person in general but I highly recommend the 30 for 30 series, it's available via Netflix.

(2,169 posts)Who is Squire Patton Boggs? Not being a member of the 1%, I had no idea.
Squire Patton Boggs is an international legal practice with 44 offices in 21 countries...
...In addition to its large legal practice, Squire maintains one of the largest lobbying practices in Washington D.C. Indeed, Patton Boggs was the largest U.S. lobbying firm by revenue in 2013. The lobbying arm, long managed by Thomas Hale Boggs, Jr., is currently managed by former United States Senators John Breaux and Trent Lott

(46,192 posts)If you're going to say that the man can't think for himself or support her on the basis of a progressive thought, at least own your statement rather than running away from it.
OWN your words or take them back. Don't try to make an attack then pretend moments later that you didn't.

(99,708 posts)They create jobs and give folks places to go , like the theatre and restaurant he opened in Inglewood. As long as we have a nominally capitalistic economic system it seems like a good way to improve people's lives. In his case he seems to have done well by doing good.

(39,909 posts)You, and one of your friends are determined to hijack & mis-state my comments, and force them to apply to Johnson. That is one of the most despicable behaviors on DU. Lets try to stay on topic, and not make up fantasy issues (see above) with which to attack other members of DU.
My comments were entirely limited to Hillary's "base".
In this video, Hillary clearly defines those she works for (her base),
and I don't make over $97,000/year, so I don't count.
DemocratSinceBirth
(99,708 posts)Her base is anybody who deems to be part of it.

(39,909 posts)They KNOW she will protect their interests.
Its no secret.
In the following video, Hillary clearly defines her "base",
and WHO she will be working for.
If you didn't make over $96K last year, you aren't included.

(39,909 posts)Please post the quote where I said "his support was only on the basis of his wealth".
I"ll wait while you work on your reading comprehension.
Being RICH is only one reason to support Hillary, not the "only basis" as YOU claim I said.
You should learn to be more careful
before you get a reputation of intentionally getting stuff wrong all the time
and intentionally misstating DU members opinions.
OOPS.

(23,487 posts)As you may remember, a week before last months election, Emanuel and Magic held a press conference to announce Johnson and a business partner of his donating $10 million to go to a summer jobs program in Chicagos inner-city. That looks like the type of quid-pro-quo that could only help Chicago residents, of course.
However, the Tribune reports that four days after the news conference, the week-old company Johnson formed with partner Mark Walter to fund the jobs program donated $100,000 to Emanuels campaign. Last week, with Emanuel still locked in a tough runoff battle for a second term, the company gave Emanuel $150,000.
So, a year after Emanuels Board of Education gave Johnson an $80 million city contract, the NBA legend and entrepreneur formed a company with a business partner and used it to donate a quarter of a million dollars directly to the Mayors re-election campaign.

I just want to point out that I have more respect for Hillary than I do for Magic.
