Tweet from Senator Elizabeth Warren on March 11, 2015:
100+ law profs agree: A #TPP trade deal with ISDS would undermine US sovereignty. Watch my floor speech why:
Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke on the Senate floor on February 26, 2015 about the Investor-State Dispute Settlement provision in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement.

(2,227 posts)Everyone cannot benefit from this corporate undermining of US labor, environmental, trade, banking, etc. etc deal. There has to be losers and that will be anyone who actually does real work here in the states. The last thing we need is for our cheating trading partners to come into our country and nullify local laws that protect our workers and environment. And they cheat every chance they get. Friends and foes alike.

(14,570 posts)What in the world is Obama doing trying to get this junk-heap through? He has good domestic and foreign policy legacies, with the ACA and Iran deal, but now he seems to be trying to fritter that all away on the worst free trade deal since NAFTA, which cost America over 800,000 good jobs. C'mon Mr. Obama, we DON'T need TPP and we DON'T want TPP.

(17,997 posts)And he voted for it. Though he has some great legacies, that just is not the case in this area.

(17,997 posts)I know it is not common for people to reply to a K&R, but I try to respond to everyone that replies to my post. I figure if someone takes the time to reply, the least I can do is thank them.
I also put this explanation up every now and then. Lucky you got it this time.
Thanks again

(17,997 posts)Love that!
Can you please tell me, if you have it handy, what article and section states that corporations can sue countries. I know it says that but I was unable to find it. I promised someone here a month ago I was not backing away from a conversation on it, after I quoted the wrong article, that I would find the right one. Then I couldn't find it.
Thank you

(24,695 posts)candidate running for office this year / next year/ the year after should explain how they voted and why they voted the way that they did, if this passes.
The American public deserves a public hearing on this issue, we are seeing more and more of this "stuff" being done in the house ( Delaney and Cole Social Security) and now this "stuff" FAST TRACK.
It seems that every 10 to 15 years we the public get a trade deal that is not and I mean is not brought before a conference hearing or public comment----this is not how the Constitution is suppose to work, its like they have found a new way to completely turn this country into a oligarpghy without any public comment except by billionaires, millionaires and corporations, we are not being given equal representation of the pie-----none.
We are also seeing the right wing U.S. Supreme court literally undermining labor laws and protection of workers on a daily basis, environmental, food safety, water safety, air safety everything ----hey folks its time to smell the coffee as the old proverbial saying goes, before really is to late

She can do it way better in her present position...she has a lot of power and a whole lot of respect and influence.
I have a feeling, as well, that no matter who the Democratic nominee is, will be foolhardy not to put her in as Secretary of Treasury or something, because she is a Woman Whose Time Has Come. She takes them to the woodshed, just like an old fashioned teacher...Harvard Professor. And as her power grows, so will her effectiveness. And I think most of us would agree that economic/corporate power is one, if not the top priority.
