(15,189 posts)HELL NO!
I'm glad he feels that way. He could lose just over that, but I don't think we'll have to worry about Crisco come Nov 2016.

(1,508 posts)He should have run in 2012 when his popularity was at its peak. Now he's just a scandal ridden bloviating douche spouting off bad ideas.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

(20,605 posts)I've seen friends OD on marijuana.
It's a dangerous drug which is why the DEA rates it higher than other drugs.
I don't want to see it in the hands of children, especially children who are unvaccinated.
Also a known fact that the BFEE has been secretly financing the push for legalization.
So yes, I applaud Christie for this stance and can only pray our nominee does the same!

(20,605 posts)Are you going to any of the phony dead shows?
I tried Furthur once and the Dead once and both times realized that something was most definitely missing....
And don't get me started on Trey...
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)Man, you know how hard those tickets are to score?
Anyway... the post-dead stuff I've seen, and I've seen some good ones- were okay as long as I went with the expectation of low expectations, i.e. not trying to recreate something that wasn't there.
That said... I'm neither a huge fan or a hater of Phish. I saw Phish play to a bar of about 200 people back in 1990 or so, and they were good. Next time I saw them it was a stadium.
And oddly enough, probably the best post-Jerry show I've seen, bar none, was at the Warfield in April of 1999.. with Page and Trey from Phish, as well as Steve Kimock.
The guitar interplay btw. Kimock and Trey was not to be believed. That was one for the ages, because who knows when those two will play together, ever again.
....I'll say this, Trey is a talented musician and he knows/respects the material. (I think the combination of Chimienti and Hornsby should be interesting, too) But I'm not interested in having that argument with my fellow 'heads. Man, you think DU is bad.... I'll come here and talk about Hillary to get some peace and quiet after those fights!

(80,708 posts)to a constituency (i.e. dejected or gravy-train losing drug warriors) that is being ignored by the other candidates. Large portions of both parties support legalization, at this point.
It reminds me of Santorum's promise to wage a war on porn, something which was being demanded by almost no one.

(80,708 posts)the next president is probably going to need to address the issue in some fashion.
I don't expect full legalization at the Federal level any time soon, however, I WOULD like a final and irrevocable Federal decision to leave the matter up to individual states.

(80,708 posts)I mean, crap, even George fucking Will was calling for the end of the drug war, years ago.
In contrast, I think the power of the so-called "values voters" has been waning, even inside the GOP.

(6,409 posts)He should declare a war on fattening foods. He's going to collapse and die one of these days. Seriously, obesity kills more Americans than pot. I hope he's not one of those who eat and drink to excess, then make fun of Michelle Obama for urging kids to get in shape.

(63,768 posts)I really think those two are winning issues for him. I encourage him to make those two wars his campaign's primary issues and hammer away at them.
Nobody likes weed and who on earth likes Michele Obama?

And if they load enough ballots in enough states with red-meat issues like "religious freedom restoration" initiatives, they could win.

(95,337 posts)I do know this much. When I was dealing with arthritis pain my one option was opiate pain killers to deal with the pain. It was NOT an option for me, I know too many people start off with that and end up getting addicted to that crap. I had read that Medicinal Marijuana actually has worked for arthritis, actor James Garner swore by it. There are a few states that use it but not my state. There were other options like losing weight (and yes after 75lbs that did work too).
I cannot disregard the damage that legal prescription pain killers have done to this country and why we continue to fight against the use of legalizing marijuana in some form. I think smart laws need to be in place - I don't want to be working with people who are wasted or having someone driving a bus or flying a plane while wasted. But for home use and medicinal purposes we need to open this path.
