This is mind-boggling. A guy shoots his brains out in front of our nation's capitol after holding up a sign that said, "Tax the one percent" and the media ignores it.
Did you see anything about it on the news? I searched and could not find a thread about it here on DU.
I guess as long as he didn't shout, "Allahu Akbar" or didn't take anyone out with him the media doesn't care?
Capitol briefly locked down after suicide at West Front
The violence shattered a beautiful spring day and threw the Capitol into a nearly three-hour lockdown as authorities pursued the possibility of a broader threat.
Police were also vague about the sign, saying only that it related to social justice. Bishop said two others who witnessed the shooting told him that it said, Tax the one percent, and that he seemed to raise it just before pulling the trigger.
Jay Bernard, 20, who is in the Navy and lives at Fort Meade, came up to the scene about 3:30 p.m. He had been in Alexandria earlier in the day and decided to swing by downtown.
I was hoping to get a closer look at the Capitol, he said.
Now? Thats not going to happen.
Bernard called the incident a bit unfortunate, especially with all the tourists in town to see the cherry blossoms.
You can read the original here.
That's some serious dedication.

(9,003 posts)I would be really surprised if nobody on DU noticed it.
I used several Search terms looking for the story on DU but came up empty. I did not conduct an exhaustive search.

But I think the average american is so dumb, so brainwashed, they simply dont understand what a heroic thing this suicide was.
Many of them are demanding Obama change the rules so the rich will get way richer.

(118,228 posts)Responsible reporting of suicides is tricky because press coverage can produce copycat suicides
As a general rule, of very wide applicability, I think we can safely say that blowing yourself away doesn't really qualify as a great leap forward in the struggle for justice or as an admirable and heroic protest against the status quo: there are better ways to spend your life
Let's listen to Sweet Honey in the Rock: "You can really go for broke. You gonna die anyway. Make a difference!"
