Who needs the police anyhow? Apparently not these guys! (Vigilante "justice" video)

Points for debate...

The police can be dangerous. But would people really be safer with vigilante "justice" in place of the police? Or should we press for accountability, better pre- and post- hiring screening, and better training?

You fuck up, you take a beating and then it's over. No cops, no courts, no jail and no one "accidentally" gets shot.

He got off easy really. And he'll not do it again in that neighborhood.

Man, I wonder why this idea didn't take off years ago? I mean think about it. How much better would it be if we could get together with, say, a group of neighbors, surround someone we're pretty sure did something, then punish them as severely as the biggest asshole/s in the group see fit! Why, we could even stand around and take photos with the accused afterwards! Determining guilt would be super easy too. Like the legal scholar in the video stated, "Why would you apologize if you weren't guilty?".

Sometimes the perp learns his lesson on not fucking around with other people and/or their property.

However the rest of the time, the perp retaliates by targeting someone in the vigilante posse, usually with a gun or another posse of his own. The result: roving violence in a shitty ass neighborhood. That's not the kind of "justice" we should be advocating for.

When I was 7 years old, spending the night at my grandparents. I was woken to the sounds of shouting and the sight of a police officer pointing a gun at me. They were looking for my idiot uncle, who had robbed a gas station that evening.

Obviously, I was not shot. But the fear of police was instilled.

I wish we lived in a world where there was no need for police. They truly can be some of the biggest assholes on this rock. But I don't see where not having any cops is going to make ANYONE'S life safer. Getting killed by a civilian will leave someone just as dead as being killed by a cop. They are BOTH evil outcomes.
