(15,438 posts)for her. Yeah...I don't get it, either. Then again, I've learned that there is such a thing as a "wishy-washy" Democratic voter.

(34,002 posts)"If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, do you plan on voting for her for president in 2016."
As written, my answer is, "No." It is a long time to the Democratic primary and I have hopes a candidate I can actively support comes along so I can vote for that candidate for president in 2016.
If my hopes are dashed, and Hillary Clinton is nominated, I will hold my nose and vote for her.

(19,089 posts)Even those Democrats who dislike Hillary will most likely support her in the General Election ... So, kind of a silly poll at this point ...
Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)So I have the option to write-in a candidate of my choice and have zero effect on a Democratic candidate winning the State. I chose O over Hillary in '08, and will choose another Democrat over her in '16.

(16,191 posts)Even if she's the nominee, I won't be voting for her. A lot of that goes back to the fact that I live in a "safe" blue state, so the party doesn't really need my vote anyway. I'd probably give her the same treatment that I've given DiFi for years, and just leave that part of the ballot blank.
Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)she gotten elected since then just fine without my vote. So has Pelosi. And so will Hillary, I suspect.

If she survives the primary process and becomes the nominee of the Democratic party, possibly. Depends on which Hillary Clinton emerges from the primaries.

(95,337 posts)We have not had the primaries and there are several scenarios.
You give YES/NO
YES to what? Which election - you do remember there is a primary election first and we have not had it. Hillary is NOT the nominee.
And I think there are a large number of DUers here who have said they will not support Hillary in the primaries but are totally fine with voting for her in the general election if she is nominated.
YES is not a valid reply, that's a bad push poll.

(95,337 posts)All those polls are also geared towards getting a specific talking point for their show.
For DU I think it's different since there are poeple like myself who is still deciding for the primaries but more than happy to vote for her in the general election.
But for some of those Undecided/Other Dem supporters here at DU, I think they get annoyed when they see stuff that 'assumes' it's already Hillary as the nominee. I think we should try and do these things in a way that respects that there will be other candidates. I mean people did assume it was Hillary in 2008 and well, we know how that turned out.

(37,428 posts)My polling place is only four miles from my house; I think I can make it there by November of next year.
My vote is the easy part. Planning whom to support when and under what conditions is the complicated part.
Was that a sufficiently contrarian answer?

Where is the urgency?

(38,187 posts)Unless it all really is a sham and has already been decided by TPTB, it's not a done deal that she will make it to the general election, no matter what anyone says. Who knows who might throw their hat in the ring between now and then? If she is the nominee, yes, in the general, I will vote for her.
In the primaries, I will vote for whoever Iowa and some of the other states that always get to choose first leave available for the rest of us, as usual. I just hope those states that get to vote so early and decide what the rest of us have to choose from leave us with some decent choices this time around. That always pisses me off that they always get to eliminate possibly good candidates that I would have loved to have had the opportunity to vote for. It's bullshit. If we ever do reform the political rules, that is the first thing that needs to be changed. Everyone should be able to vote in the primaries on the same day instead of the same damn four states ALWAYS getting to choose first and leave the rest of us with way fewer candidates to choose from. Until that imaginary dream world pops into existence, whatever few choices they leave us, I will choose from that list in the primaries, as usual.
Maybe those of us on the left who want any seat at all in politics and government, most importantly, should form a commune, move to those same four states and vote en masse in the primaries to give the rest of the country a chance to have an actual left leaning Democrat to vote for in the primaries. Otherwise, any Democrats who do lean left will always be eliminated before the rest of the country even gets a damn chance to vote for them. It is bullshit and always irritates me to no end. Damn tradition.

(28,270 posts)Of course if she doesn't Ill vote for the democrat that does get it because I love this country and the 99% of it that are being oppressed by the republican 1%.
Any so called democrat that sits this one out because Hillary/someone else doesn't walk on water will be doing the will of their new masters the koch bros and the republican ayatollah that gets elected.

Nothing personal Steve, but these "polls" are a problem, whether done by a major network, or here, especially this early.
And anyhoo, I now believe truly in the secrecy of the vote as quite a sacred thing, not in a religious way... but you know what I mean. It is nobody's business, let alone DU.

In fact, I still think she'd have been the better 2008 choice - though that may be faint praise.
