Read a professor of medicine’s outraged tweets from her son’s abstinence-only sex ed class

http://www.vox.com/2015/4/15/8420311/sex-ed-abstinence-only

Alice Dreger, a professor of medical humanities and bioethics at Northwestern University, has written about the importance of honesty in sex education. So when she learned that her son's heath class was abstinence-only, she went to see what they were being taught.

Her son let her join him in class, where she sat at the back of the room and live-tweeted the proceedings:

The whole lesson here is "sex is part of a terrible lifestyle. Drugs, unemployment, failure to finish school -- sex is part of the disaster"

"You'll find a good girl. If you find one that says 'no,' that's the one you want." HE ACTUALLY JUST SAID THAT.

70s into the 80s. Full spectrum sex ed.

If they only warned us that the priests would bugger us if we got alone with them...

Yep. An awkward sort of virtue, that.

Personally I think we should all fuck our brains out from time to time, by the methods we most prefer, with the people who most want to do it with us, it's free, it's fun, and it's healthy with just the tiniest bit of forethought.

The problems arise when you start letting it take over your life instead of become a sustaining part of it.

“Life in Lubbock, Texas taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you're going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth, and you should save it for someone you love.”
