The Titanium Airframe has about a Half of the designed life span due to improper heat treating. Plus electronic problems. But we still pay for them.

I expect that the air was ported off from the compressor, but it still sounds bad to me.

It's called bleed air and it's a common way to pressurize an aircraft cabin.
