Chris Christie: "I would love, for a week, to be the emperor"

NASHUA, N.H. — Toward the end of an appearance at a major Republican summit here in which he presented himself as a strong, decisive leader, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie answered a tough question from the audience about his state’s lackluster economic growth.

After a series of softball questions, a young College Republican from Dartmouth stood up and asked Christie to address the Garden State’s persistent job losses.


Christie, whose primary case for a presidential run his record of conservative accomplishment in deep-blue New Jersey, blamed Democrats in the Legislature for refusing to cut taxes.

“I would love, for a week, to have a Republican legislature or to be the emperor,” Christie joked.
