The New Democrat Coalition - I haven't seen much discussion here

In a Common Dreams article from Friday on the rush to fast-track the TPP, I read:

a group of 11 House Democrats signaled on Thursday that they will support Fast Track: "The lawmakers—all members of the New Democrat Coalition—said Thursday that they are encouraged by reports that a top Senate Democrat had secured several of their key priorities in newly introduced trade promotion authority legislation."

http://www.commondreams.org/news/2015/04/17/corporate-forces-push-fast-track-bill-progressives-draw-battle-lines

And from a Wiki article:
The New Democrat Coalition was founded in 1997 by Representatives Cal Dooley (California), Jim Moran (Virginia) and Timothy J. Roemer (Indiana) as a congressional affiliate of the avowedly centrist Democratic Leadership Council, whose members, including former President Bill Clinton, call themselves "New Democrats."

-- According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the top contributors to the New Democrat Coalition caucus members are the finance, insurance and real estate industries. The Center also reported that the New Democrat Coalition receives a considerable amount of cash from the financial sector and since 1989 members of the New Democrat Coalition have collected $50 million from the finance, insurance and real estate sector.

No Labels philosophy. Plenty has been posted here about that philosophy and Democrats who espouse it.

They call themselves New Democrats to disassociate from Democrats before Bubba.

because the TOS requires support for Democrats, and the Democratic Party elected a New Democrat to the White House:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19862.html

And, of course, the Democratic Party is already crowning another nominee before any primaries with a neo-liberal Democrat. Neo-liberalism is the foundation of the DLC, the "Third Way," and the "New Democrat Coalition."

The reality is that the modern Democratic Party is heavily influenced by neo-liberalism, and DU is a partisan site, and therefore many members ARE "New Democrats," at least philosophically. Many who are not have been convinced that the only way to "win" is to elect neo-liberals, and therefore they must be loyal to those New Democrats.

But that doesn't preclude discussion or disagreement of policy and organization.

organization and policies, whether they are called "New Dem" or "DLC" or "Third Way" or "Centrist" or "Corporate," inevitably lead to accusations of non-support for and the ubiquitous misuse of the word "hate" of, and demands for loyalty to, our "beloved leader" and his crowned successor.

But I don't feel we've quite hit the level of Free Republic just yet.

since I haven't spent time at FR.

I have, though, been referred to the TOS for this site repeatedly in the midst of what are supposedly primary threads. Not by admins, of course, but by DUers who don't want that discussion of dlc/centrist/3rd way/new dem connections when they've got a candidate to promote.

Ultimately more may support Fast Track, but for now only 11 have indicated that they would support Fast Track.
