People were fascinated that Hillary Clinton went unnoticed on her New York Chipotle jaunt, but now managers say she did not tip

Hillary Clinton made waves this week when, shortly after her 2016 presidential campaign announcement, she took a trip to the Maumee, Ohio, Chipotle. Initially, the Twitterverse was baffled that no one recognized the well-known Democrat leader, but now, the manager at the Chipotle in question has admitted that not only did Clinton not pay for her own lunch (Huma Abedin, the vice chairwoman of her presidential campaign, took care of that), but she did not leave a tip in the tip jar.
The order, a chicken burrito bowl, chicken salad, blackberry Izzy, and a soda, came to $20, and Abedin left $21, which, last time we checked, totally counts as a tip.
"We get a bunch of tips," said manager Charles Wright, who only realized that the customer had been the presidential candidate after news organizations began calling, told Bloomberg, and later clarified that he didnt care if she left a tip or not. If we're doing our job right, people tip."
Talking head Rush Limbaugh was extremely interested in Clintons tipping habits, saying on his show, "Thats where the people that work at Chipotle, that's where they make a little extra, in the tip jar, and I haven't heard a word about whether or not she visited the tip jar, whether she put anything in it or not."

(20,135 posts)as well as for tips. And I still don't make that much.
How the hell do you know what $1 is to me anyways?

(102,141 posts)That said, I rarely see a tip jar in Chipotles or other locales that do not offer seated service. If I saw one, I'd very likely drop something in, but I can certainly understand why someone might have not done so.

(31,783 posts)The one I stop at every morning. They always have my coffee ready when I walk in the door and I always give them three dollars and have the put the .56 cents in the tip jar.
Higher wages is the answer - and many servers make below minimum wage in sit down restaurants. Those people I tip well.

maybe Huma took care of the tip, too.

(11,843 posts)after I walk away, I will leave a tip at Chipotle.
When I stand in a line to give my order to people standing in place, bring my food to the table, bring my drink to the table and bus my table, I give a tip to me. Since I was my own wait staff for no wages, my only compensation for that work is the tip. Fortunately, the conservatives haven't grasped upon this as taxable income, yet...
I have no problem with tipping but not for places like this.

(146,262 posts)expected to bus my own table. There are exceptions, though. There's a deli-style place where I always order 2 Gyros and one order of fries. Always. When I walk in the door, one of the guys working behind the counter walks over and starts slicing the gyro meat off the spit and dumps the fries in the oil. By the time I've paid the guy at the cash register, my order is ready. I drop a couple of bucks in the tip jar in gratitude.
But, if I walk into a McDonalds or Burger King, I don't tip anyone. There's not even a tip jar. I say what I want to the cashier, then pick up the bag at the counter. I don't even eat there. I don't use drive throughs, because the service is faster inside, and I can see to food preparation line. If people don't have their gloves on or the place is dirty, I walk.
Tipping is for service. No service, no tip. Pressing buttons on a cash register and taking my money is not service.

(82,383 posts)and they call that "not paying for her own lunch?" So what if her assistant did the paying? Geez.
