This is a simple choice that even the most simple-minded should understand.
Republicans, and some Democrats, argue that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are breaking us. We can no longer afford it. Their solution is to privatize it.
Yes, rather than raise any taxes on anyone, we would choose to let Social Security go under. They know how to save Social Security for the next 75 years, but they choose not to do so. Instead, they prefer to give more and more taxcuts to the wealthy and the un-needy.
After all, who is more important? Those poor workers that will never have anything but their Social Security when they retire? Or those poor hedge fund managers that pay less in taxes than the workers at McDonalds? Which side are you on?

(82,849 posts)Everybody knows that poor people will always make do, get by, keep on keepin' on. But if you want the wealthy to pungle up another three cents on the dollar for their "earnings" above a million a year, why that's just unconscionable! At long last, haven't you blood-suckers taken enough from the wealthy? Must they pay and pay and pay those additional pennies on the dollar they stole fair and square? No, no, and a thousand times NO! Get it from those lazy moochers on Social Security! Why are they just sitting around waiting for a check to come in the mail? If they're not working, they shouldn't be eating - says so right in the Bible it does.

(14,570 posts)paid into Social Security full-boat for over 40 years, the answer to this question is a no brainer!
Tax these corporations so they pay their fair share, tax capital gains as regular income and keep the so-called 'death tax' the way it is.
STRENGTHEN my Social Security because I PAID for it. I'm not asking for anything extra, just for what is mine to begin with.
