Does anyone actually believe that European elections mean anything to the American electorate?

This is what's going on inside Congress right now

To Protect Military Budget, House GOP Plans To Cut 25 Percent From Programs ‘Directly Benefiting The Poor’

The House Budget Committee is set to meet today on a new GOP plan to stave off further cuts in military spending that are mandated by the Budget Control Act’s sequestration trigger. The Pentagon will be required to trim $55 billion from its budget next year and House Republicans think they’ve figured out a way to prevent that: cut programs for the poor, the AP reports:

Yet Republicans still have a edge in the generic ballot:

Our nation ever got involved with their wars or anything.

Except of course for that time that the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor.

If Europe starts a trend toward the Left.

But, yeah, most people right now don't even know one European nation from another.

They have already accused us of wanting America to be another France, and have implanted that idea firmly into a lot of skulls. A new Socialist government will be a talking point that will strike a chord among jingoists.

to whatever extent banks feel under greater pressure and try to cover expected losses by charging even more annoying fees, we'll feel it.

and to whatever extent european policies shift to promote growth, we'll feel that to.

my expectation is that the former will be felt first, but the latter will be the more profound.

in terms of us politics, this is a negative for democrats for 2012 due to the timing and the rhetorical advantage to republicans (they can better paint obama as part of some socialist threat).

but in the long run, this is good for america and for democrats (assuming obama wins re-election).

Somehow things don't sink in here. I mean, France just solved its austerity problem with an election. The American people returned the party who broke the Government and economy to power in 2010.

Like I said in another thread, Scott Walker will be the next test.
