Some honest questions about the TPP.

Why does the TPP need to be written and negotiate in secret?

Does this deal affect national Security?

Does this deal affect our countries economic security?


Now a more important question--- FORGET This is a Democratic President--That this is the FIRST African American President. Forget This is President Obama. Elizabeth Warren is who she is. What if THIS trade deal was leaked under another president.

How many would be taking The president's side and saying wait, wait? How many would oppose it because it is a republican President working on this deal? With all the other facts the same. Is it the actual leaked details that upset you? Would it be who the President is that would make you oppose it --if you are right now for it?

What if Elizabeth Warren was a republican and objecting for the very reasons that are being objected too now. Would you still be oppose to it? Would you still be in favor of it?


Can we put aside this slamming people for being a troll or Obama/Warren hater and just step back for a minute.

Let's look at the facts:

-- Information of this trade has been leaked.

Based on what is know that I have not even mention. Would you still support or oppose it?

Response: Because all international negotiations are done in secret to allow for give and take, i.e., negotiation.

Does this deal affect national Security?

Response: All trade agreements/international agreements are a matter of national security.

Does this deal affect our countries economic security?

Response: Economic Security is national security AND national security includes economic security.

Response: (I can only speak for myself, but) I would remain unmoved, as a leaked document does not represent what is; but rather, what is being negotiated.

Response: I would ... I wouldn't ... No the leaked details don't upset me; it's DUer's insistence that the leaked details ARE the agreement has me upset. But more, it's the perverse attitude that having one's opinion informed by speculation, makes one somehow "smarter" than those that seek to have their/our opinion informed by fact. That's what has me upset ... well, as upset as I can get about stuff on the internet

Response: I would continue to be unmoved.

3. My view is

1. Nobody really knows what is in it, not the final version. Yes things have been leaked, by "anonymous" leakers. I just find it hared to believe these "leakers" have all the facts when I don't even know who they are.

2. Trade agreement are done in secret until the final version, for obvious reasons. Look at all the uproar going on, think what it would be like if every little discussion were made public on a daily basis. Negotiators have to hammer out details, then the final version is released.

3. Do you really think that with republicans controlling both branches of congress it would be a "good" idea to let them add all kinds of amendments to the bill? Think of all the BS they could put in it before they voted on it.

Now I admit I could be wrong, and if the bill is as bad as some here say, I will admit it. The question is will all those who have a history of going off on Obama over nothing, setting their hair on fire and running around declaring he hates the people, the country, etc. also admit it if the final version is not as bad as they claim?

I really don't see why president Obama would risk his legacy on "the worst trade deal in history". It just does not make any sense. I will put my trust in him until I see the final version, not in "anonymous" leakers, and not in those who have been against him here on DU from day one. Just my opinion.
