Police: Mom Turned in Son, 15, After Seeing Suspect Photos in CTA Sex Assault

A 15-year-old boy accused in a brutal sexual assault on a Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train was turned in to the Maywood Police station by his mother Wednesday after she saw his picture on a CTA bulletin and confronted her son about it, officials said.

Deshawn Isabelle allegedly took $2,000 from the victim and used it to pay for his graduation fees, junk food and Air Jordan track suits.

In a Thursday court hearing, Cook County prosecutors said the middle school student dragged the 41-year-old woman by her long hair, punched her repeatedly and sat on her head during Monday’s attack.

As of Wednesday, the victim, who suffered concussions and cuts all over her body, was still vomiting as a result of her injuries, Assistant State’s Attorney Joe DiBella said.

Usually the mothers of these types of monsters stick by their sons like a police union stick by police officers who just shot an unarmed person in the back.

Good for her for having a moral conscience, its a rarity especially in that region.

Do you have a link to data that supports that?

...and I'm sure just as many people in "that region" have a moral conscience as in any other region.

Not.diminishing the evil of what was done.. But it's mind boggling to me how short the time can be between (nonexistent) childhood and brutal criminal.

Parenting in the teen years can be a little scary because boys go through such severe personality changes and often are unwilling to talk about their feelings of anger etc.

At 13 they might still be your compliant little boys with small problems; at age 13 1/2 the hormones kick in (not implying this was sex motivated; I mean the increase in testosterone for its aggressive consequence) and you no longer know them, they've changed so much.. and 500 days later they are "15-year old adults".

Given that she turned him in and he has confessed, I suspect that his family is in the awful position of knowing they raised a monster.

"Even though Isabelle’s mother helped with turning him in, she was visibly upset when DiBella spoke to the media after the teen’s bond hearing Thursday.

Some degree of denial is natural, I suppose.

Yes, this was a very violent, terrible crime and the kid needs to be in an institutional setting. Let's hope the criminal justice system can be an instrument for change for this boy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Brandt

When he was 13, this quiet, gentle-natured boy walked into the bathroom where his father was shaving, and shot him. Then he shot his pregnant mother, killing her. He then threatened his 15-year-old sister, but she managed to calm him and get away. The father survived. Charlie spent a year in a mental facility, and when he was released he and his father and sister moved to another state and never spoke of “it” again.

Years later, Charlie stabbed his wife and grown niece to death and cut out the niece’s heart. Then he hanged himself.

Charlie never should have been given a second chance. Neither should anyone else who commits an extremely violent crime.

Edited to add: Charlie is suspected of having been a serial killer. The meticulous manner in which he'd cut up his niece and removed her heart has led investigators to believe it wasn't the first time he'd done something like this.

that until he shot his parents, no one knew he was capable of such a thing, and even afterwards, his father and sister thought it was just a one-time thing and apparently didn't worry he'd ever do anything like it again.

from seeing the story on TV (You Tube link to the story on 48 Hours in my Post #22), Charlie didn't fit the mold for any specific kind of mental illness, so psychiatrists couldn't diagnose him with any. Weird.

read there may be people like that. When I was in high school, the movie The Bad Seed, starring Patty MacCormack, came out, and it was the first time I'd ever heard of the idea of someone being born evil. I don't dismiss the idea of someone being born with sociopathic tendencies, but I can't imagine someone being born a full-fledged psychopath.

I know that teenagers' brains aren't fully developed, but they know that crimes like this are deplorable. This young criminal will always be a violent predator. He's a sociopath. Sociopaths don't get better; they get more violent and depraved.
