Deciding which American state to live in isnt easy. Its like entering an all-you-can-eat casino buffet with the limitation of only being able to choose one food item. Before deciding where to live and buy a home its important to be informed, which is why Estately has compiled this map and list of what each state has more of per capita than any other. Some are good, some are bad, but all are unique to that specific state.
ALABAMAracist tweets
The states health woes and poverty provide plenty of other options (highest percentage of strokes, diabetes, homeless children, etc.), but the avalanche of racist tweets during the 2012 presidential election really set it apart from the rest of the countrynot counting Mississippi, which was a close second.
ALASKAveterans
The Last Frontier State is unfortunate in its per capita first place finishes for violent crime, rape, and gun violence, but America can find solace in Alaska having the highest percentage of veterans per capita, and by far the most bald eagles.
ARIZONAU.F.O. sightings
Look! Up in the Arizona sky! Its a bird. Its a plane. Its
an alien spaceship.? With over four UFO sightings for every 100,000 people Arizona had the most reported UFO sightings of any state. Maine was second.

(40,416 posts)Always in transit. Two stand out.
Once in Albuquerque when Amtrak laid over for a couple of hours. Found a great restaurant. I always look for the little, out of the way, places. They never let me down. This time it was a gem. I only wish my wife and I had more time, but we had walked around before finding the place so we had to eat and run to get back to the train. But great food and when we told them our time limit they were fast. The food was fucking great.
The other was when I was driving back to Michigan from CA, with everything I owned in the back of an old Volvo station wagon. I had a reservation at a motel east of Santa Fe, but did not want to eat either at the motel or in Santa Fe. I needed to fuel up at a little berg just south of Santa Fe. Two local police people (one guy cop, one woman cop) were also fueling up and I took a chance. What's to lose? Who else would know where to eat? So I explained my situation -- driving through but would like to stop for a meal here. They were great! Furthermore they sent me to a great little family run Mexican restaurant where I had one fucking helluva a meal, a huge enchilada which had chocolate in the sauce, washed down by dos cervazas. It was wonderful food, gourmet at a little out of the way place, as the cops said.
And yup, both meals were speecie-spicy, from those wonderful New Mexican chilies.
That's just another reason to love New Mexico. Well, that and the mental illness. (So it's got that going for it.)

If you ever visit the Bay Area, go to a little out of the way Mexican place "La Fiesta" in Mountain View.
They have the absolute best Chicken Mole.

Awesome stories. There are SOOO many excellent places. We used to live in Santa Fe. I would absolutely love to move back to NM.
The chocolate sauce was probably mole' sauce. MMMmmmmm.

(40,416 posts)And mental illness can be a bit entertaining... As long as the cuisine is good.
Just joking...
My best to you. And have some good NM-Mex food for me. I miss it here in Michigan where they don't know what the word chili means.

There are a few pandas at zoos in D.C, San Diego, and Memphis, but Georgias Zoo Atlanta has the most pandas of any American zoo (5) because Lui Lui and Yang Yang are highly successful at mating.

Wisconsin, home of the greatest percentage of African American men locked up, just over one out of every ten (13%).
The proud patron of both Whopping Cough and Leukemia.
We also binge drink like no others (understandable if you are an African American male, have Leukemia, kept awake because of your child's whopping cough, voted for Scott Walker, or are forced to live under Scott Walker).
Now as a poor disabled leukemia survivor forced to live under Teabagger Scott Walker's statewide handout job to give the Koch brothers a morgasm. I'm going to bed wishing I had the money to binge drink, taking small solace in the fact it could be worse; I could also be African American.

(40,416 posts)I've been an acoustic engineer, and a teacher, but I am retired now. I've also lived in NYC, Wichita (18 years!), and CA (10 years). I love NYC, but my current income would not support that. Forget KS and CA, the former is a theocracy, the latter a rather big fucking traffic jam.
Where shall I go?
I like the idea of VT being the best craft beers, but at my age I dunno if I can take living north of where I am. Winters kick my ass. But they do have Bernie.
Maybe ND. Farms and bars sounds great. Maybe Fargo. But then there's that wood chipper thingie and again, the cold winters. But I may try some bars and farms on a summer vacation sometime. I'll forgo the wood chipper.
I think I'd opt for NM. Mental illness sounds great when mixed with something this survey possibly forgot. New Mexico has the absolutely most wonderful Mexican cuisine in the USA. And one can forgive a little lunacy if one has good eats. Plus, they mostly vote Democratic. So they have that going for them. Plus, as a frustrated amateur astronomer, there are clear skies there.
If only I wasn't so broke.

(38,187 posts)That is because people here hate snakes. You cannot convince them that snakes are not waiting just to bite them and their children. They seem to believe snakes wake up in the morning and decide to spend their entire day, hiding in the grass snickering and saying, "Bubba, Sissy and their offspring will walk by here any minute now. This is going to be EPIC!"
I am surprised it is not tied with most spider kills and all other animal killings too. The place is full of chickenshit rednecks who kill damn near every animal they see.
