(743 posts)I do it in this forum. I criticize him on the war on terror, and I am really worried about TPP.
But if you ask me do I approve of this president, I'm automatically going to think, "Compared to what? Compared to other presidents? Compared to the insane people he's dealing with? Compared to his critics on Fox News and in red state America?"
And then I feel more charitable toward a guy who has the hardest job in the world, inherited a terrible economic and political situation, and gets accused of not even being a real citizen by racist nutjobs. And recently, he's shown that he's doing his damnedest to build an understanding with two countries we've had a cold war with for decades. And he's doing that in the face of opposition from a party that really does want unlimited war.
So I will go on criticizing the president. It's important that we do that. Lives are getting lost.
But the government is bigger than he is, and so are our problems, and after Dick Cheney and his Texan meat-puppet, Barack Obama looks decidedly better than average.
