Joni Mitchell Reportedly Unresponsive, in a Coma

Legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in a coma and cannot respond to anyone, according to TMZ.

Mitchell’s close friend Leslie Morris has also reportedly filed legal documents to obtain conservatorship over her.

Her official diagnosis has still not been revealed. The 71-year-old was rushed to the hospital late last month after collapsing in her L.A. home.

Mitchell’s rep did not immediately respond to request for comment. The last update on her health was posted to her official website on April 3.

We won't see her like again anytime soon.

ETA a favorite tune, from Shadows and Light. The immense and deserved respect in which she has been held by other musicians is reflected in this astonishing band, which features Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, the greatest bass player who ever lived (Jaco Pastorius), Michael Brecker and Don Alias.

I've loved Joni Mitchell since the release of Court and Spark in 1974 and the album still holds up as one my of all time favorites. My daughter's as well. I am feeling old and gutted by the news.

I haven't listened to that in a long time, but it's one of my favorites by her. Beautiful song by a beautiful woman.

Hope she improves...

Apr 28: Update on Joni's health
Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com
