Sock It To Em: CUMULUS LOST MILLIONS ON RUSH LIMBAUGH BOYCOTT

CUMULUS LOST MILLIONS ON RUSH LIMBAUGH BOYCOTT

5-7-2012
It's the first time anyone actually gave a dollar amount regarding the Rush Limbaugh Sandra Fluke incident. Monday evening Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey said the advertiser boycott cost his company "a couple million" dollars in ad revenue in the first quarter and "a couple million" in the second quarter. He said things look like they will be back to normal in June. Cumulus carries Rush Limbaugh 38 markets and blames 1% of the 3.5% drop in revenue for the quarter on the Rush boycott. Dickey said Cumulus was "hit pretty hard by this."

http://www.radioink.com/Article.asp?id=2451234&spid=24698

If Rush cost Cumulus four or five million in two quarters, and Limbaugh is on only 38 stations, how much has Premiere likely lost? Rush is on about 600 stations altogether.

Remember how Rush characterized this? He said business was up as much as 60 percent on his stations as a result of his attacks on Sandra Fluke!

So $4-5M lost from 38 stations is roughly $130K per station.

So if we pro rate that loss to the 600 stations on Premiere, that is a $78 million loss in advertising.

Give Rush a raise for success!

Maybe it's time to educate the sponsors that are still with him.

But it reveals more about how hard this boycott may have hit him and his radio allies - if he felt it necessary to hire a crisis management company. If indeed it really turned out to be the "no big deal" deal he claimed it was, he wouldn't have felt the need to do that. Hiring a crisis management company to advise you on turning some PR disaster around is something you do when you've got a PR disaster on your hands.

19. Translation:: Hello Hucklenutz...
Tue May 8, 2012, 12:56 PM
May 2012

Lew Dickey heads the company that is rushbo's competitor. Premiere that distributes rushbo's show is owned by Cheap Channel...Dickey runs Crumbumlus...another right wing operated company that likes to fire people and make their executives very rich. Cumulus operates some of rushbo's biggest affiliates including WABC in New York, WLS in Chicago and KSFO in San Francisco...the company also just debuted a show to compete with rushbo hosted by Mikie Hucklenutz.

This looks like Dickey is looking for the excuse to dump rushbo. This article comfuses Premiere with Cumulus rather than Cheap Channel who took the biggest hit in the boycott. It could mean that rushbo will vanish from some of his most powerful and largest affiliates in the months ahead...stay tuned...

wouldn't get Rush off the radio. I think the only way he could possibly be pulled from the air is if the FCC starts issuing fines, but that won't happen because there is no political will to do that by the powers that be.

Cumulus dumbed down KGO into an all-news station on the weekdays and all-talk weekends despite having a sensible news/talk format for weekdays for decades! I hope KGO gets sold soon to a more sensible ownership as Cumulus self-destructs over its clueless business decisions and El Rushbo soon shutting up.

...was rhetorical or not, but either way I feel compelled to share his newest absurd hijinx. He has started a Facebook page called "Rush Babes for America" which the Raw Story decribes as "an outreach effort conceived as a pre-emptive strike against activist organizations trying to have 'The Rush Limbaugh Show' pulled from the air."

On Limbaugh's site he says, "The National Organization for Women has been out there drumming up membership for decades. The Rush Babes for America Facebook page has been up for 24 hours, and we are already close to having more friends (i.e., members) than the NOW gang has." So, if you wanna' annoy that big blob of stupid, "LIKE" The National Organization for Women (NOW) on Facebook.

You can't make this stuff up.
