Found an article in the local Baltimore Newspaper online outlining the next steps. Hopefully this might stop some of the blame the victim stuff that goes on at DU whenever it is cop/cop wannabe (Zimmerman good example) killing/harming a citizen. I.E. It's not a slam dunk until all of these things happen to clear the seven LEO's.

The Next Steps:
Police investigation - currently under way. Anthony Batts to report to prosecutors by Friday (this week). Beyond this date there will be further investigation.
Autopsy - Gov. Larry Hogan has asked that the autopsy report be expedited.
Me - I'm anticipating a 'magical negro' result on this one. I.E. He did it to himself with his own super human strength. It's the easiest way to let these thugs off the hook for what they did.
Potential criminal charges -
Justice Department probe ><-----
The federal agency has opened a criminal investigation into Grays death. The agency has not released details, but said it would include the FBI, the U.S. attorney's office and civil rights lawyers within the department.
Internal police discipline - Non Starter - as most of us know. Seems like they are already on unpaid leave.

(31,780 posts)They said 7 - so is that person included or in addition to? Maybe we'll find out on Friday who is included?

(53,919 posts)I hope the family is also asking for an independent autopsy.

(31,780 posts)I'm also thinking the DOJ might request a separate one? That's been Lynch's MO in the past - go sideways, behind, over to get the most accurate information.
Behind the Aegis
(53,919 posts)Perhaps that will be the case, or their lawyer can help them secure an independent source. You are also correct the DOJ may also request one. I feel sorry for Lynch. She finally gets confirmed, then all hell breaks loose. She is going to be under a very unfriendly microscope.

(31,780 posts)BTA and JAG - It could be far worse. Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii could have been in that police van. Or one of you.
The good thing is - she's tough. Gets sworn in and starts briefing the President on Baltimore and the Gray case! She's awesome!

(31,780 posts)But it warms my heart. I *thought* they were on paid leave - but this is your local newspaper - what do you think? Think they got it wrong?

(6,145 posts)So I'd like to believe they got it right.

PS. I appreciate the Mr. Gray. First time I've seen it.

(31,780 posts)And I'm calling him Mr. Gray - because they kept (here at DU) pointing out that Trayvon Martin was a grown man. That Mike was 'big'.
You don't get to have it both ways. If every black male who is a victim is a Man - whether they are of age or not -
Then show some freaking respect and use their last god damned names.
Maybe it's because my father was a Southerner -but they way people speak/write so disrespectfully is appalling. Not as appalling as someone basically getting internally beheaded by the people we trust to maintain law and order. But pretty effing appalling.
