German Govt 'lied' to parliament about NSA spying

“We have no knowledge of alleged economic espionage by the NSA or other US agencies in other countries,” the Interior Ministry wrote to the Bundestag on April 14th in response to a question from the opposition Linke (Left Party).

Statements of this kind are signed off by the whole government.

But it emerged last week that Germany's foreign intelligence agency, the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) had been spying on German and European companies on behalf of the NSA.

Further, officials at the Chancellery, which is responsible for overseeing the BND, knew about the economic espionage and did nothing.

The Chancellery knew as early as 2010 that the NSA had asked the BND to target firms including arms companies EADS and Eurocopter, both since merged into Airbus.

http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/bnd-skandal-thomas-de-maiziere-wehrt-sich-gegen-taeuschungsvorwurf-a-1031293.html

In March the BND warned the Chancellerry that the NSA attempts to abuse their relationship to an enormous degree.

In April the Chancellerry issued a report to parliament that they don't know anything about economic espionage by the NSA.

Asked what happened between March and April, spokesperson Seibert refused to comment.

Asked whether the german government would have issued that report exactly this way if they had known of the NSA-espionage, spokesperson Seibert avoided answering the question.

Thomas deMaizière assured that there is proof that he's innocent, he just can't show it because it's classified "secret" or "top secret".

----------------------------------------------------------

The comments on the article are devastating: Destroyed trust to the two major parties CDU and SPD, calls for resignation, "high treason" ...
One commenter said that Merkel will defend that minister for the next 2 weeks. And when the outrage has been replaced by a new topic of the day, she will stab him in the back and force his resignation. And then everything goes back to business as usual. (Expect exactly this.)

I find it especially troubling that the german government lied to the german parliament. Resignation of anybody involved in writing that report seems like the absolute minimum to me.
I guess, the german government are a bunch of incompetent "Schwanzbacken" and tried to make everything run smoothly by hiding mistakes instead of rectifying them.
Same with the G36 assault-rifle. It has been known for years that it overheats in extended firefights but it was easier to cover it up than to change something.
And what happened when it turned out that the US had spied on Merkel herself? NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is obvious that Germany outsourced so much to the US that the german government is afraid to confront the US, because that would mean upheaval and reorganization and doing things and taking responsibility. Noooooooooo. Can't have that. I you reorganize things, the voter might get the impression that things aren't running smoothly.

Personally, I hope, I really hope, I sincerely hope with every fiber of my being (I was literally shaking with anger as I wrote this), that the opposition-parties run the dirtiest, vilest, meanest, ugliest attack-ads possible in the next national elections in 2017 and keep reminding voters what traitorous incompetent fucktards this government consists of.

Hell, at this point I would even prefer a government containing the libertarians and the communists over these "Schwachmaten". The only thing I'm happy about right now is that I voted for one of the opposition-parties and never gave any party of Merkel's coalition-government my vote.
