I suspect the Romney team will try to limit the face to face contact in the months leading up to the election to an absolute minimum. The Obama campaign may be able to use this to paint Romney as a coward who's spurious commercials can't stand up to a real time debate.

There's no reason Obama can't shred Romney to pieces on live TV, and I'm sure the Romney team knows it. Unlike campaign speeches, voters from both parties will be tuned in.
