So Gray's death was a homicide.

Meaning that he did not die of natural causes or at his own hand, but at the hands of others.

The only way to justify a homicide would be to claim self-defense or defense of others. Given that Gray was chained up in the back of a police van, that's pretty much impossible.

Charge the officers. Either manslaughter or 2nd degree murder, but charge their asses.
