Wasn't that an emotional moment, Marilyn Mosby announcing charges in Freddie Gray's killing?

...I was bracing myself for the worst as I waited for the Baltimore state attorney to make her announcement. I know it's cynical as hell, but I fully expected to hear charges wouldn't be filed. I reacted to the news of the indictments with the same rush of uncontrollable tears I experienced witnessing the Ferguson tragedy unfold; tears of joy and relief, this time. Also, sadness.

Sad that a young man's life was taken from him under such brutal and uncaring circumstances by people who are supposed to protect and serve the community; sad that it took so much protest against so much racist and bigoted resistance to bring about these indictments; sad that fear of the police actually brought about the death of this man at the hands of police.

I know that these arrests of the officers won't guarantee that justice will be served, but I'm heartened at the scope and detail of the charges brought by the state attorney. We are witness to police accountability in my state which has eluded so many others in too many parts of the country. We can only hope that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of such institutionally-sanctioned lawlessness. I think most of us realize it will be a very long road to that reality... Remember this day.

I just cried when @MarilynMosbyEsq said to the protestors, "I heard your calls for no justice no peace." Y'all. Tears. #FreddieGray

as most people have said, I was surprised beyond belief...sounds like Mosby has her ducks in a row.....may her prosecution of these criminal cops come to successful fruition...

without them, I am not sure charges would have been filed.

I hope that Freddie and his family (and all of us, really) see that justice is done.

I think many of us have grown accustomed to hearing the worst every time. This seemed like a miracle.

Just sat in complete amazement as the State Attorney made her astonishing comments. Listened so hard to every word Have never listened that hard to a public figure before in my life.

"Emotional" would definitely cover the experience.

Thanks for the photo. It's perfect.

I felt that it was what the community needed to hear after a very rough week, and that the healing process for the City could begin again.

I was also proud of the City of Baltimore itself for not sweeping this type of brutality under the rug and holding its law enforcement to accountability.
