in helping a family I thought could be helped. I was wrong. Go to: http://www.gofundme.com/te2gqk
If you can help I thank you very much but please do not make your own needs go unmet because of me.
Finally - fixed. BTW those little ones in my account picture are my great grandchildren.

(51,308 posts)Confused as to how DU has become gofundme central lately.
I don't think that's the purpose of this website.

(60,010 posts)He essentially said people are free to ask, and other people are free to respond or not.
We also have the neat little "trash thread" option for posts we do not want to see again.
In fact, we even have a "trashcan" option by key word which will keep posts from ever being seen,
and an "ignore" button which will keep any DU member posts from appearing.
I trashed "guns", for example. Never see those posts anymore, it has increased my browsing speed nicely.

(62 posts)I posted about my gofundme experiment that I did for college this semester. I am a single mom and I laid out my project for the semester and my findings. I was asking people's feelings on the issue of single parents being seen as unAmerican. My article was not asking people to go help me, it was asking people's opinions of single parent's and using my gofundme as an example. I kept the campaign on gofundme because my need is real but I posted on here because I am working on the final that I am including my study in right now. It is due next week. But my first reply was "We are leery...of people signing up to DU then immediately asking for money" I immediately edited my post to not include my link to my gofundme page and wrote about how my original post included the link but that I was shamed for it. This did help my study, but I am very grateful to see someone who is kind towards those in need. People like you are greatly appreciated. Kindness and generosity are rare in this world. Never lose either.

(21,691 posts)Why would feelings of acceptance of single mothers be determined by willingness to throw cash at a stranger?
Single mothers are not Unamerican, whatever that means.
No, I won't give you money.

(49,212 posts)I'd be mortified and I don't know why you're not.
Giving you money isn't a vote of confidence for single parents. Get real.

(14,449 posts)But we don't want to help the working poor or those in need on here? I am surprised. It's not like it is mandatory. If I had a vote, I would vote to keep them. I never had the need but if I did I'd think DU would be the best place to ask. I am a bit disappointed to be honest.

(21,691 posts)They often give cash assisstance to people in circumstances such as yours.
It might also be helpful to explain in your post that YOU need the money as you put a bill in the name of the family you were trying to help and the skipped on you, leaving you with a $1K+ bill and in danger of losing your power.

(39,215 posts)I am going to watch for these kinds of things for now on and see if I can actually help others the way you helped me.
