Democrats Baffled by Presence of Candidate They Like
WASHINGTON Democrats across the country were baffled on Thursday by the unexpected appearance of a presidential candidate they actually liked. In interviews across the country, Democratic voters expressed reactions ranging from befuddlement to shock at the prospect of voting for a candidate they can stand. The candidate in question appeared to be honest, forthright, and on the right side of issues that Democratic voters traditionally have cared about, leading many Democrats to wonder how such a person could actually exist. In the words of one Democratic voter, This has to be a hoax.

Our party has been drowning in corporate corruption. No wonder Bernie's honesty and genuine liberal principles come as a shock.

(614 posts)never forget: this was in fact the exact same mood of 8 years ago with obama!
and be real, folks; if it comes 'down' to hillary, we'll all vote for her - and enthusiastically - against whatever poop is nominated on the other side.
face it; we have a very deep bench in the party, comparatively speaking.
all that said, tho, i have to admit: bernie possesses far more integrity, clarity, principle, and experience than hillary, warren, and obama combined!
IMHO.

(55,981 posts)There is enthusiasm from places that have been ambivalent before. That's why Sen Sanders is such a threat to the status quo, to the Plutocratic Oligarchs, to Goldman-Sachs and the corrupt banksters. They aren't afraid of Sen Sanders as much as they are afraid of the Populist Movement. It's catching on around the world. Protests everywhere about social inequality and economic inequality.
The Corp-Media and the Conservatives are all denying that there is a movement to their own peril.
Get on board the Populist Movement and support Sen Sanders.

A man who SHOULD probably be President, but knows he won't be President, but is going to run anyway, in his 70's, and spend more energy than most of us can even imagine having, and likely every penny he has to his name, to force the lady who we all know WILL be president to listen to what the hell nearly ALL of us believe this country needs, and to hopefully make some promises that she will be forced to at least be conscious of and reminded of during her term.
I call that man a hero. #Bernie #BernieSanders

(9,126 posts)But none of us should be complacent about what we're up against. The corporations, Koch Bros and big backers, and the party itself will be trying to torpedo him at every turn. Bvar22 has a great post about what went on with Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas as an example. Watch for party shenanigans. I wouldn't put it past big donors from the conservative side crossing over to vote for Clinton because they know the race will be against two entrenched pols in the general then. They can't have Bernie running against Jebba the Bush and making him look bad.
But most importantly, what he is talking about means BILLIONS of dollars of lost profit to banks and corporations. They will fight him tooth and nail with everything they've got. If he starts to be anything more than "pulling Hillary to the left" watch the major PAC attack ads come out. Scary Socialist! and raising taxes 2000%. He is trying to shake up the status quo, and they had it all wrapped up with corporate-friendly candidates on both sides.

(7,016 posts)after begging for a candidate who will represent what we seem to stand for some seem to dismiss him as a UN- winnable long shot.

(2,382 posts)... the electorate has become so inured to the sight of politicians of both parties strapping on their knee pads whenever a billionaire snaps its fingers, that they automatically associate a man of principle and integrity as something akin to a unicorn, sans glitter.

(2,382 posts)... the results can be radically skewed just by the way a question is phrased, and too many people let polls make up their minds for them. "Well, if the hive says it's so, then it MUST be so!" Not necessarily.
And dismissing Bernie as a long shot a mere 4 days after he announced may be jumping the gun just a wee bit, not to mention becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Even frothing-at-the-mouth, brain-dead Teabaggers will have a hard time refuting what he says, because it's all rock-hard, irrefutable FACT that affects their lives as well, if not more than most.
I've met Sanders and spoken with him several times, and I've followed his career for nearly 40 years. He's the real deal, so I say, SCREW the naysayers, and especially the Third Wayers, who are just Wall Street sympathizers, let's VOTE for the man who can do the right thing for the right reasons, and NOT settle for what "The Party" says we are supposed to want.
Remember what those bastards did to Howard Dean? He was sandbagged by his own party! If they try that shit with Bernie, I will do everything in my power, no matter how pitifully limited it is, to take them DOWN!
Now ya got me all revved up...

(39,961 posts)cautiously agree with him. It's difficult to fight with someone who not only tells the truth, but backs it up with actions.
You can call him many things, but dishonest isn't one of them.

(14,168 posts)She COULD have been the female version of Bernie. Warren, a former Republican, is the closest we have to have to a female Democratic leader espousing traditional Democratic values outside of the easy social progressive positions that they all share. And she still could, but she remains silent on the really big issues of the growing oligarchy ruling the US today.

(68,644 posts)I mean it... She could have had it all, she could have done some serious soul-searching and talked to somebody outside of her bubble and become a real champion using a Bernie playbook.
That she didn't is very sad, and revealing.
